Have you heard of the term “skip-care”? This trend that hails from Seoul has gained traction amongst Korean millennials who are looking to detox and streamline their skincare routine.
It might sound obvious but with more and more skincare categories making their way into our daily routine, it makes sense to take a step back and reevaluate what your skin actually needs.
Instead of separate products for brightening, hydrating, exfoliating (the list goes on), skip-care suggests you find multi-tasking products that treat various concerns at the same time.
As Laneige’s Global Makeup Artist, Cat Koh, explains, “Skip-care is not about skipping your routine altogether but skipping some steps with smart all-in-one-products like a sleeping mask with hydrating and brightening benefits.”
Read on for some of our favourite hardworking multi-benefit skincare products that can help you kickstart your skip-care routine.

1. RE:ERTH Multi Targeted Elixir ($135)

While this all-in-one concentrate of white turmeric leaf and root extract comes with a pretty hefty price tag, considering you can use it as a one-and-done product to deeply hydrate skin, improve skin elasticity and firmness, minimise discoloration and smooth skin, it’s safe to say it’s worth it.
2. Allies of Skin Bright Future Sleeping Facial ($159)

This overnight mask contains slow-release glycolic and lactic acids that work to reduce blemishes and speed up cell renewal, the brand’s Ally-R formula of encapsulated stabilised retinol (which doesn’t irritate the skin), probiotics to tackle skin redness and strengthen your skin, as well as skin brighteners. That’s a whole lot of active ingredients in one tube.
The mask also contains a high molecular weight pure hyaluronic acid gel which really works to plump up and hydrate your skin as well as protect it from free radicals. Slather it on before hitting the sack for your best beauty sleep yet.
3. Sigi Skin Glow Sunscreen ($58)

This sunscreen protects the skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays and is formulated with a high concentration (four per cent – any higher and you’ll need a doctor’s prescription) niacinamide that brightens and strengthens the skin.
Additionally, the sunscreen is also purely physical and only uses two types of UV filters namely zinc oxide and titanium oxide which are less likely to cause irritation for those with sensitive skin as compared to chemical sunscreens that use up to six filters.
Besides offering sun protection, the Morning Glow Sunscreen also doubles as a moisturiser for normal, combination and oily skin types and protects the skin against oxidative stress with Vitamin E. This also eliminates dead skin cells for healthier skin inside-out.
4. Alpha-H Liquid Gold ($60)

This glycolic acid-based resurfacing treatment has the consistency of a toner, but it’s so much more than that.
The low pH levels of the product help skin to regenerate as you sleep, tackling concerns like acne scarring, sun damage and hyperpigmentation.
To use, simply soak a cotton pad with the product and apply it to the face in a swiping motion every second night.
