Ask any skincare lover or beauty editor and they’ll tell you that facial masks are a must. Why? Just think of them as multi-vitamins for your face.
They might not be absolutely necessary, but they give your complexion the leg up that it needs to go from good to great.
Personally, I’ve been masking daily for over a decade and it’s done wonders for my skin. I rarely have a breakout, and there’s no sign of dark spots or fine lines.Masks are basically treatments that target specific skin problems and issues so your complexion stays at its optimum health.
While it might not be suitable for people with very sensitive skin, I would definitely recommend trying out daily masking to everyone else.
It just takes about an extra 15 to 20 minutes of your time every day, and the results are definitely worth the effort. Just like how an apple a day keeps the doctor away, a facial mask a day will keep most skin issues away.
The key to daily masking is knowing your own skin and creating a balanced, varied mask routine that won’t overload it.
For example, using a deep cleansing mask every day for a week will probably leave your complexion dry and irritated. Instead, you should mix it up with a variety of facial masks from anti-ageing to clarifying, brightening and hydrating.
And of course, if your skin has a particular problem at the time, then feel free to tailor your personal mask schedule accordingly.
If you have a sudden appearance of pimples, then use a deep cleansing or clarifying mask two to three times that week.
Spent too long under the blazing sun and now feeling worried that dark spots may appear?
Then give yourself a double dose of brightening or whitening masks. But a rule of thumb is never to use the same mask two days in a row, especially if there are strong active ingredients like retinol or AHAs in them.
If you’re not sure how or where to start with your daily masking schedule, here’s a sample regime that you can try.
But remember, try not to use intensive masks back-to-back. Instead, break them up with more gentle treatments that calm or hydrate. And don’t forget, everyone’s complexion is different so do personalise it to make it your own. You’ll get the best results that way.
