If you’re still nailing down your 2020 resolutions, here’s an important one you can’t afford to miss: Indulge in more self-care. Whether you plan to stay in on a Friday night and give in to all things relaxing or try to find a new Netflix series to ward off pent-up (and building) work stress, updating your skincare routine is a simple way to give yourself that head start.
From a never-ending to-do list to bills to pay, high cortisol stress levels can wreak havoc on your body and skin, leading to increased fatigue, weight gain, inflammation and excess sebum production. Luckily, we have the perfect solution for saying goodbye to stressed skin this year.
Antioxidants – The No.1 Gamechanger in Skincare
All the daily stress you experience, whether from work, home or relationships, can lead to the production of free radicals that damage healthy skin cells through oxidative stress. Antioxidants are the key to protecting your skin, mopping up the free radicals in it.
The result: skin damage from free radicals is limited and inflammation is reduced, which then slows down the skin-ageing process.
But while our bodies already do this naturally, the neutralisation process becomes less effective from the time we turn 30. Your best bet then? Add antioxidants – considered the superstars of skincare – to your daily beauty regime. It’s one of the most important ingredients to have in your beauty products, and make all the difference in how healthy and youthful your skin looks – whatever your physical age.
The Moisturiser That Does so Much More
When you think of moisturiser, you think of hydrated, plumped skin. But your moisturiser should do more than just hydrating your skin. Meet the Fresh Lotus Youth Preserve Moisturizer. The beauty brand’s well-loved moisturiser has been upgraded with powerful antioxidants to help you achieve radiant, resilient skin.
It uses all parts of the fresh, living lotus, keeping all their active molecules intact, to allow the moisturiser to deliver the greatest efficacy and potency. The result is a potent radiance-boosting product that helps prevent the signs of ageing and strengthens skin’s barrier.
What’s in it for your skin? This antioxidant-rich ingredient helps to protect against harmful UV rays, pollutants and free radical damage so it becomes smoother, brighter and more youthful-looking.
The day cream has a lightweight yet creamy texture that has the added bonus of prepping skin for makeup application.
As part of their efforts to honour practices of minimal environmental impact, Fresh sustainably harvests their ingredients and sources them locally to where the formula is produced and filled.
The plants are picked when they are in full bloom and processed immediately at an on-site lab, while they’re still alive, to ensure that the freshness, efficacy and potency of the extracts are not lost. To ensure minimal biodiversity impact, any plant by-products from this process are returned to the soil.
We Tried It – And You Should Too
Our tester used the Fresh Lotus Youth Preserve Moisturizer for a week and here’s what happened to her skin.
Day 1: I first tested the moisturiser in the office on my neck, which tends to get dry in all-day conditioning. Am already loving the texture, which felt richly moisturising yet sank right into my skin without feeling tacky. That night, I replaced my regular moisturiser with the Fresh Lotus Youth Preserve Moisturizer. I was surprised to notice that my face didn’t feel taut the next morning, and had a nice moisturised radiance to it. It looked brighter too.
Day 2: My makeup went on more smoothly this morning and my blusher didn’t look as patchy. It seemed easier to blend into my skin.
Day 3: I decided to push the limits of the product a little more, by omitting all the other products in my beauty routine. After cleansing, I applied Fresh Lotus Youth Preserve Moisturizer and went to bed. The next morning – surprise! My skin was still relatively moisturised and I didn’t feel like I needed to use more moisturiser or other skincare to make up for the night’s experiment.
The verdict: After a week of using the product, I could see that my skin was well-hydrated, with fine lines looking less apparent. My skin feels smoother and there is a healthy radiance to it. My pores are less apparent as well. My face is also less reactive to environmental factors like the heat, sun and stress, which usually shows up in redness on my cheeks. I think it’s the result of my skin becoming stronger and more protected because of the potent lotus ingredients in it. The big bonus: I know the moisturiser is working because I don’t need to use as much product as I did in the beginning.
