There’s no need to be a K-pop fan to know Park Shin-hye, the beautiful 27-year-old actress-slash-singer of Stairway to Heaven and Pinocchio fame; you would’ve probably recognised Park from her campaigns with big names such as Korean beauty brand Mamonde, Italian luxury brand Bruno Magli, Visa and Austrian jewellery brand Swarovski, just to name a few.
With her flawless complexion and carefree personality, it’s not difficult to understand why renowned brands want to work with Park or how she garnered 7.4 million fans on her Instagram. More recently known for her lead roles in the crime thriller film Heart Blackened and SBS’ medical TV drama Doctors, we sat down with the star who let us in on her secrets to getting glowing skin whilst chatting about all things beauty, fitness plus her favourite colour and her first memory of Mamonde.
Cleansing is a big part of her daily skincare routine
“I place a lot of emphasis on cleansing and I take my time to make sure I properly cleanse my face, body and hair. I usually start by shampooing my hair, followed by a hair treatment which I leave it on the entire time until I’m done with my face and body. I try to go for an oil-based body cleanser which helps my skin retain its natural moisture while removing dirt and grime. I also leave the lather on my body like I do for my hair – I won’t wash it off immediately – while I move on to the last step of my routine, facial cleansing. For my face, I prefer a cleanser that is not too oily and doesn’t produce thick foam but it still has to be effective in getting rid of the dirt on my face. After that’s done, I wash off everything at one go. I find that this trick helps keep my skin and hair in tip-top shape.”
“The biggest beauty problem I face during hot summer days is whether my makeup will last or will my face turn oily, so I try to avoid wearing foundation that’s too heavy or anything that’s too oily for that matter. I like my base to be as thin as possible and I go easy on the eye makeup by skipping eyeliner and using long-wearing mascara instead. I’d pay more attention to my lips to brighten the overall skin tone.”
“I learned that taking care of your skin, which is the base, is much more important than putting on layers of colours. In fact when I get my makeup done by professional artists for filming or photo shoots, we spend more time moisturising my skin and working on the base to keep the look natural and hydrated with minimal use of colours.”
Her beauty must-haves for travelling are surprisingly simple
“Whether it’s for my overseas projects or personal holidays, I like to travel to warmer countries and because I tan really easily, I must have my sunscreen with me together with Mamonde’s Rose Water Toner. If I don’t have face masks with me, then I’ll soak some cotton pads with the toner, chill them in the fridge then use them to cool down my skin and soothe rashes and redness. I prefer not to wear too heavy makeup so I just pack the Cover Powder Cushion for glowing skin and Lip Tint because I like the focus to be on my lips.”
She counts leisure sports as her way to stay fit and healthy
“Bowling aside, I like to try different types of leisure sports; some of the recent ones that I tried and enjoy are wakeboarding and surfing. I also picked up golf recently, it’s a pastime that lets me spend time with my parents. When I need to travel overseas for work, I will always check if the accommodation that I’m staying in has a pool or gym prior to travelling. Sweating out is my way of relaxing and it makes me feel more peaceful.”
“The colour that I feel best suit my skin tone is anything that is red-based. Whether it’s a pink or orange lipstick, dress, blouse or skirt, I will choose a reddish pink or burnt orange to flatter my skin tone. With red lipsticks, I tend to go for darker reds.”

She’s a lipstick hoarder (like the most of us!)
“I’m a little embarrassed to admit this but I love, love, love lipsticks, especially orange ones, and I’d buy them in different shade and textures whenever I come across any – I’ve collected so many that I have a box filled with lipsticks now! There’s something I find really interesting about collecting different variants of lip colour and experimenting with them on your lips.”
P.S. Mamonde’s going to be unveiling its first standalone boutique on the island at the end of this month. We heard that there will be tonnes of giveaways up for grabs, so stay tuned for updates!
