Raise your hand if you’ve been personally victimised by pesky pimples that refuse to go away, and black and whiteheads that just seem to come back over and over.
It’s a never-ending uphill battle – trust us when we say we feel you. And you’d think that with the plethora of acne-busting products filling up entire racks in pharmacies, we’d have clear skin in no time. Spoiler alert: No.
It takes trial and error (lots of them, in fact) to figure out what works for your skin. As a rule of thumb, salicylic acid should work, but bear in mind that adult acne may take a slightly longer time to recover… so give them all the TLC you can.

And while many products may promise to deliver instant results – do take it with a pinch of salt; pimples can form overnight, but you won’t be able to get rid of them as quickly. They play dirty (literally) like that.

This toner is a godsend for red, stinging acne. Gently tap this on after cleansing your skin, and it instantly soothes painful bumps, and takes away redness.
The Moisturizers Co. Ultra Pore Refiner Anti-Blemish Night Cream with Niacinamide, $78

If your face is flushed and red from the popping (that you’re not supposed to do), this soothing moisturiser will calm any flared skin and “flatten” pimples. It’s a silky gel-like texture that glides smoothly, and won’t irritate.
Antipodes Aura Manuka Honey Mask, $52.15

This manuka honey mask doesn’t just smell great, it quickly takes away the pain from raw, angry pimples. Apply generously and leave it on for 15 minutes before washing off – you’ll find those problem areas soothed and easier to tend to.
Sunday Riley U.F.O. Ultra-Clarifying Face Oil, from $56

What we love about this medicated oil is how non-greasy it is. It absorbs quickly into the skin to help “ripen” larger pimples. When used consistently, skin becomes less prone to acne and looks brighter overall.
Dermalogica Breakout Clearing Booster, $40
image
A thin, watery formula that blends out like water. The “booster” will help to “ripen” big pimples, and flatten smaller ones. It helps to clean out the bacteria in the acne area, making the area a little more manageable.
