While modelling rubber masks were all the rage in 2017, it looks like it’s time to retire those gooey packs as 2018’s answer to skin brightening and hydration is decidedly different. The latest type of mask to hit the market is the jelly mask. Just like the dessert they are named after, their lightweight texture makes them super easy to apply and you don’t have to worry about the face mask slipping and sliding off your face as they work.

Jelly masks focus predominantly on hydrating the skin. Most of these gelatinous-based masks contain moisturising ingredients like glycerin as well as other skin brightening actives like Vitamin C derivatives. The cooling gel consistency works best for individuals with dry and dehydrated skin that does not react well to heavy cream based masks and products. Not different from that of sheet masks, this trend is great for those who are looking to provide their skin with a hydration boost. However, if you are looking for hard-hitting anti-ageing results, these jellies might not be the thing for you.

You know what they say, the proof is in the pudding, or in this case the jelly. If you want to try the trend yourself, here are some of our picks.
