The jury is still out on this. Sabrina Tan, executive director of Skin Inc, says: “Extractions can cause open wounds, making skin more prone to inflammation and infections. In the long run, it may cause scarring and enlarged pores.”

However, Denise Chong, senior beauty therapist at SK-II Boutique Spa, says: “Extractions rid the skin of blackheads and small pimples that impede the health of the skin. If carried out by professionals, they are not necessarily harmful.”

So it boils down to your needs. If you think you require extractions, look for a reputable salon or spa. If not, cleanse your skin with regular exfoliation and topical face peels.
