It’s hard not to notice that our world today revolves around all things personalised, from food and health to gadget, fragrance and apparel. So it’s no surprise that a slew of beauty brands are also coming up with bespoke skincare, making our options more than just the existing serums, creams and treatments available on the shelf.
With the new crop of customised skincare, you have the opportunity to truly target the skin issue that you’re most concerned of without having to completely turn around your routine. Take a look at these three brands that offer personalised skincare service on the island.
CODAGE

Codage is a French cosmeceutical brand known for its bespoke serums – made-to-measure ones complete with packaging that displays the customer’s initials. It was founded in 2006 by a French brother-sister duo, Julien and Amandine Azencott (pictured), who grew up in a family of doctors, dermatologists and pharmacists.
The name of the company stems from how each serum’s formulation is composed of “codes” (active ingredients to treat precise skin issues – for example, hyaluronic acid to hydrate skin) that are inspired by elements in the periodic table. These codes are listed on the packaging so the customer sees at a glance what each serum is for: mattifying, anti-ageing, and so on.

While the bespoke service is not currently available in Singapore, you can try the pret-a-porter collection of 12 serums first. Mix, match and layer them to suit your specific skin concerns. You can even use different combinations on different areas of your face – apply one of the hydrating serums to your cheeks if they’re dry, and one of the mattifying serums to your T-zone, before finishing with a radiance-boosting one for a translucent glow.
Codage Paris is available at Escentials, #03-02/05 Paragon.

Backed by 166 years of apothecary expertise, Kiehl’s recently introduced a range of tailor-made serums that are designed to give your skin exactly what it needs. Known as Apothecary Preparations, it is touted by the brand as a truly personalised skincare featuring potent concentrates that address each individual’s two most significant skin concerns.

You start off with a Kiehl’s Skin Strengthening Concentrate, which contains 35 per cent squalane and 20 per cent Skin Lipid Complex, a blend of unsaturated fatty acid-rich botanical oils like apricot, coriander, blackcurrant and echium).
Next comes two Targeted Complexes that are individually selected through a one-to-one skin diagnosis with the Kiehl’s beauty advisor using a dermatologist-inspired Skin Atlas.
The five options include:
– Visible Redness Neutralizing Complex with sunflower seed extract and vitamin E;
– Wrinkle Reducing Complex with retinol concentrate and Pro-retinol;
– Texture Refining Complex with vitamin F and lipohydroxy acid (LHA);
– Pore Minimizing Complex with samphira extract and salicylic acid;
– Brightening Complex with vitamin C and Scotch Pine extract.
Be warned: Do not apply the Targeted Complexes directly to skin as they contain extremely high potency. It is a must to dilute the Targeted Complexes in the Skin Strengthening Concentrate to ensure optimal efficacy and skin tolerance.
Once the Targeted Complexes have been selected and the consultation is complete, all the components will come enclosed in a personalised box for you to mix at home prior to first application. The complete Kiehl’s Apothecary Preparations Set (Concentrate base + 2 Complexes) retails at $150.
The Apothecary Preparations service will only be available at the Kiehl’s counters in TANGS at Tang Plaza and Ngee Ann City.
