Rebecca Lim interview Her World Swisse

It is 9.30am, two days after the Star Awards, and actress Rebecca Lim looks as if she has perfected the no-makeup makeup look – except that she isn’t wearing any. Her skin is clear and healthy-looking, and her hair is straight and frizz-free.

Sitting in a makeup chair for Her World’s cover photoshoot, one can say that Rebecca is basking in the glow of her post-award win as one of the Top 10 Most Popular Female Artistes. Or that she really knows how to take care of her skin.

Either way, the spotlight is on her. The 32-year-old actress, who stars in the HBO series The Bridge and Mediacorp’s upcoming police drama C.L.I.F, credits her glow to having a consistent skincare regimen, exercising regularly and consuming Swisse supplements (she is the brand ambassador) for her hair, skin and nails.

She always starts her day with a big glass of warm water. “Someone told me years ago that it wakes up your system, helps detox your body and gets rid of water retention. That’s like 3-in-1 benefit,” she says.

As for her skincare routine, she does a basic cleanse and tone, along with a hydrating serum. As she is always out in the sun because of her job, moisturiser and sunscreen are a must. She includes a scrub and mask every other day. “Recently I added Swisse Ultiboost Golden Collagen Blood Orange Liquid to my beauty regimen. I take one every day. My skin looks more plump after taking it for a month,” she adds.

She also takes Swisse Women’s Ultivite Multivitamin and Ultiboost Hair Skin Nails. “My nails used to be very brittle and I hated going for manicures but now, they are pretty tough. Hair fall has decreased too.”

According to Rebecca, consistency is key to maintaining youthful and healthy-looking skin. “Don’t do anything too last minute, and expect to see miraculous results,” she says, and advises to load up on collagen and vitamin C.

Another tip from her is to get enough sleep. She believes sleep is “like the cure for everything – for your skin and your internal system.” She says that if the latter is healthy and good, it will definitely be reflected on one’s skin. On her off days, she does not apply makeup at all to let her skin rest. She also tries to workout twice a week at home.

As testament to her own advice, she admitted that she did not have time to go for any facial treatments before the Star Awards, and yet still managed to look beautiful. “Of course I had some help with hair and makeup but I was confident enough to attend the awards without doing anything special beforehand.”

Who does she think has the best hair and/or skin in the industry? “Nicole Kidman,” she says. “I met her while we were shooting a campaign for Swisse in Italy. She really has glowing skin. She’s also super fair!”

However, beauty is only skin deep. “Ultimately you have to accept yourself for who you are, on the inside and out,” she says. “I think that’s where you can really shine. At the end of the day, everybody’s different, so you really just have to embrace yourself and make the best out of it.”
