#1 GRADIENT LIPS CAN BE WORN IN REVERSE
Korean gradient lips aren’t always cute and girly. This look at Nokeh features gradient lips in reverse – the darker shade was applied on the outer portion of the lip, while the lighter shade was applied in the middle.
While this isn’t anything new in the beauty scene, it’s a good example of how you can pull off the look without heavy eye makeup. A sheer wash of neutral brown or burgundy eyeshadow is all you need.
#2 APPLYING YOUR BLUSHER AT A DIFFERENT POSITION CHANGES YOUR LOOK
Blusher application for most of us comes intuitively, whether it’s applying it just at the apples of your cheeks, or bringing it up to your temples. But each method brings about very different looks. The former, as seen at SJYP, adds more volume to the cheeks, while the latter helps to sculpt the face.
#3 CLEAN SKIN GOES WITH EVERYTHING
The trick to pulling off bright or extremely dark colours – which are used a lot in K-Beauty – is to keep the skin looking spotless and clean for contrast. You can play around with the level of shine you want on your skin by mixing an oil with your foundation or by applying a layer of translucent powder over your base makeup.
#4 A WINGED LINER IS THE SIMPLEST, YET TRICKIEST WAY TO ENHANCE YOUR EYES
Every makeup lover understands the immense struggle it takes to get winged eyeliner looking even on both eyes, but if done right, this single step can complete your entire eye makeup look in just two minutes.
Here’s our tip: Dot along your lash line, then slowly connect the dots, forming your desired eyeliner shape. Have a bunch of cotton buds ready to neaten the edges of your eyeliner. If you need to clean up any mistakes, put a little concealer on the tip of the cotton bud and apply accordingly.
#5 OUT-THERE COLOURS SHOULD BE “SPOT APPLIED”
Chucked out an attractive but “out-there” eyeshadow, like a bright yellow or burgundy because it was just too difficult to wear?
Well, the trick to pulling the look off is to keep your skin looking clean, then spot applying it at the outer corners of the eyes or at the bottom lid, like this beauty look spotted at the Cres. E Dim. show. A neutral brown shade was also used on the upper eyelid to give the eye a slight contour and to balance out the harsh burgundy colour applied at the bottom eyelid.
#6 BRAIDS CAN TOTALLY TRANSFORM A SIMPLE LOOK
Instead of using a different lipstick or blusher, a simple braided hairdo is all you need to switch up your usual no-makeup makeup look. To get this look, section your hair into four parts – two large sections in the front and two smaller ones at the back. Create a French braid for each section and leave some strands out at the sides and voila, you’re done.
#7 KOREAN MAKEUP FIT FOR A CELEB: YOU NEED THESE 4 ITEMS
What you need to nail the Korean celebrity look: Good mascara, subtle eyeshadow, clean skin and a #mlbb – my lips but better – lipstick. Pink, rose and coral tones seem to be a fave amongst these gorgeous women.
