When you treat yourself to a new makeup product, it’s always a thrill. But it’s even nicer when you know that the brand you love is giving back to charity too.
Every year since 2006, French luxury botanical brand, Chantecaille, creates a cosmetics collection to raise money for a conservation charity.
In a campaign to raise awareness of the devastating effects of human encroachment and poaching and the ivory trade to the existence of elephants, five per cent from each purchase of the Lip Veil ($80) would go to the Space of Giants.
Space of Giants is a conservation non-profit based in Africa committed to protecting the migratory paths of elephants through scientific research and diplomacy.
“Every 25 minutes an elephant in Africa is shot. That statistic is deeply distressing, and I’m thrilled with Dr Graham’s commitment to secure half of Africa’s remaining 380,000 elephants by 2020,” says Sylvie Chantecaille, founder of Chantecaille.
Known for their 100 per cent plant based makeup and skincare products, Chantecaille’s philanthropic initiative began in the spring of 2006 with the launch of the Les Papillons Collection, where five per cent of proceeds benefited the Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary.
While most of these previous philanthropy collections have been limited-edition seasonal offerings, the brand has been moving towards supporting various conservation efforts through their permanent makeup collections.
One case in point is the brand’s Philanthropy Collection released earlier this year. Each shade of their most celebrated blushers is thoughtfully embossed with the conservation effort it supports – from sea turtles and wild horses to elephants and monarch butterflies.

Similar to the Philanthropy Collection, the newly revealed Lip Veils will be a permanent part of the makeup collection.
Now as for how it looks: these eight lippies are packaged in a modern magnetic case in the brand’s signature deep amethyst shade and emblazoned with a beautiful elephant as a symbol of the collection’s commitment to these majestic creatures.
The lipsticks come in a full spectrum of saturated hues from honey to fuchsia, all named and inspired by African plants and flowers.

Staying through to the brand’s DNA, these creamy and lightweight lippies are made with skin-loving
ingredients like organic baobab oil, wild mango butter and argan oil and are free of nasty chemicals.
So if you’re going to make a decadent purchase, consider making it one that also helps the planet.
