Jet Concepts’ flagship store at Wheelock Place

For the first time in Singapore, you can treat your skin to rocket science technology that is painless, effective and surprisingly affordable at homegrown beauty concept store Jet Concepts.

Developed by a Russian rocket scientist and approved by the FDA in 2006, the patented Jet-M machine uses supersonic pressure to deliver saline and other liquid nutrients into the outermost layer of skin to perform four functions: exfoliate, boost lymphatic drainage, infuse active ingredients and extract blackheads.

You can also buy Jet Concepts products, available in three lines: Jet Clear (above) to treat skin problems, Jet White to lighten spots and Jet Defence to fight UV damage

All Jet Concepts treatments – which include facial, hand, neck and scalp – begin with cleansing using the Jet-M machine to prep skin to its optimal condition, so it can fully absorb nutrients and active ingredients.

Instead of the conventional “cleanse, tone, moisturise” routine, Jet Concepts adopts a different three-step that involves skin layers: epidermis, cellular and collagen.

As each layer serves unique functions, the beauty brand recommends alternating treatments that cater to the specific needs of each layer for more comprehensive results.

For instance, the Jet Cell Restore treatment targets the cellular skin layer, which contains tissues and cells, as it helps to stimulate cellular function and promote healthy tissue growth.

Now, don’t let the unlikely coupling of beauty and jet aviation engineering throw you off – it did to me initially, but after understanding how it works and trying out the technology on my own skin, I must say it was impressive.

I opted for one of the more basic treatments, the hour-long Jet Facial, which targets the epidermis layer to unclog pores, exfoliate and boost lymphatic drainage.

My therapist allowed me to gauge the pressure of the jet on my hand before the facial treatment. Despite releasing the blink-and-you-miss-it mist at supersonic speeds, the pressure I felt was subtle and comfortable.

Regardless, I asked her to warn me before the jet went anywhere near my nostrils, because I tended to stop breathing altogether during other oxygen mist-type treatments I’d previously had. Luckily for me, the pressure felt significantly gentler so my worries turned out to be unfounded.

Even the “extraction” process, where she basically used a tube with a suction tip to remove blackheads and whiteheads, was painless and, in fact, quite enjoyable.

My therapist worked on one side of my face first so I could see the difference halfway through the treatment. True enough, the treated side of my face looked visibly brighter, smoother and more refined. My under-eye area also seemed lighter than the other, which was a major plus point for me.

Starting March 1, Jet Concepts at Toa Payoh will be shifting its operations to the recently-opened flagship store at #03-03 Wheelock Place, Tel: 6733 7055. Its other outlet is located at #B2-20/21 Raffles City Shopping Centre, Tel: 6337 9598
