Anyone with a medium or darker complexion will understand the struggle of finding a CC cream in Singapore. Most brands carry about two or three shades, and even then most of them are way too light for some of us.

I would say that the new Your Skin But Better CC Cream SPF 50+ ($62) from IT Cosmetics is suitable for most skin types because it’s got hydrating properties (thank you, hyaluronic acid), but doesn’t leave your skin feeling greasy. I would recommend going in with a nourishing moisturiser or hydrating primer beforehand if you have dry skin, but normal skin types should do just fine applying this “neat”.

Finish-wise, this CC cream lends a very natural and slightly dewy finish, so if you have oily skin you may want to set it your T-zone with the Bye Bye Pores powder ,which does an excellent job at mattifying and oil control (it holds up all day, no joke), and also smooths over the appearance of your pores. The combination of both products is frankly quite amazing, and has become my go-to for natural work-appropriate makeup.

As a bonus for the skincare junkies out there, the formula is infused with anti-ageing peptides, vitamins A, C, B, E, hydrolysed collagen along with antioxidants and exotic natural botanicals that also claim to brighten your skin. The SPF 50+ rating comes courtesy of physical filters, and means that this can also double up as your sunscreen in a pinch.

Though it claims to be full coverage, I find that it’s more of a medium, which I actually like because when you’re opting to wear a CC cream instead of straight-up foundation, full coverage isn’t really the goal. The Your Skin But Better tagline pretty much sums up the overall second skin appearance of the CC cream, which manages to even out skin tone and reduce the appearance of redness (well done on the colour correcting front!), without looking like you’re wearing any makeup. I also find that it doesn’t settle into my fine lines or pores, which is another great plus.

One of the biggest pros in my opinions is that there are five shades: Fair, Light, Medium, Tan and Rich, with Medium being roughly equivalent to a Mac NC30. While five is still a rather limited number, the colours at least cover a wider spectrum of skin tones and are quite forgiving, so they blend well even if it doesn’t look like a perfect match in the tube. Best of all, the pump dispenser is great for hygiene purposes, and the product comes in a handy tube that makes it really easy to take with you on holiday.
