When looking for a liquid liner, my criteria is that it must glide on smoothly, stay on all day and have a waterproof formula that wouldn’t leave me looking like a panda bear in a torrential downpour.
According to one beauty enthusiast, Shelby Pagan, the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner checks all of the boxes. In fact, it appears that this eyeliner is so long-lasting, it even endured a horrific car accident.
25-year-old Shelby, an ER nurse from Boston, was hit by a distracted driver and sustained a cervical strain, head laceration and knee confusion, according to her social media.
Thankfully, she has since recovered from that ordeal. Throughout her traumatic experience, Shelby was rushed into the hospital where she stayed for several hours after the accident.
When she took a photo to show her mum she was ok, she noticed that despite the fact that her rest of her makeup had worn off, her eyeliner – which was the Kat Von D Trooper Tattoo Liner ($32) stayed fully intact.
Sorry I haven’t posted in a few days and I am sorry I don’t have a funny caption for you today. On Wednesday June 28th I was parked on the side of a highway, with my hazards on, calling for roadside assistance because I ran out of gas. While on the phone for help I was hit by a driver going 56pmh. I was treated in the ER for a cervical strain, closed head injury, knee contusion and forehead lacerations. I consider myself lucky to have walked away from the accident relatively unhurt and alive. The reason the other driver hit me is still not known. But I have my life and am surrounded by such great friends, coworkers and family. Mahalo nui loa to the paramedics, doctors and everyone else who helped me.

Impressed by the longevity of her eyeliner, Shelby decided to find humour in this situation and posted a review for the product online on the official Kat Von D site. She even attached a photo of herself in her neck brace as proof.
Along with a five star rating, she wrote, “This product is truly amazing. June 28th I was pulled over in my car calling for roadside assistance when a distracted driver hit me going 55mph. I was taken via ambulance to the ER where I remained for 8 hours. My mascara was running down my face from crying and all other products had been wiped off in the transfer to the hospital. But not my tattoo eyeliner. I am posting a pick to show you, this product lasts and looks amazing through anything. Never buying any other liner again.”

Needless to say, Shelby’s review went viral, with many commenters convinced to give the eyeliner a shot. Good eyeliners are hard to come by, so if it can stay on even after a post-car accident sobfest, then it’s officially a must-have.
But as the old adage goes, “seeing is believing”, so I decided to pick up the Kat Von D Trooper Tattoo Liner myself to see if it lives up to expectations.
First, let’s talk about what I really liked about the eyeliner. The eyeliner has a super fine brush tip that is neither too stiff nor flexible.
This fine tip helps the product to stay on your lids and gives you great control and precision so you can go to town with a thick, dramatic wing or use a lighter hand to create a small flick. Also, I was extremely satisfied with the colour payoff. One layer is all it takes to create an opaque jet black line.
However, I must say that I was concerned with the longevity of the liner. I’ve noticed that on days I’m not wearing eyeshadow primer, or haven’t sealed it with setting spray or loose powder, while it doesn’t smudge, the Kat Von D liner fades slightly after a long day.
There are certain things that I really like about this eyeliner like how pigmented it is and how precise I can get with my line.
That said, because it fades slightly after a long day, you need to be prepared to do midday touch-ups if you do intend to pick this eyeliner up.
