Right off the bat, we’re going to say that we’ve always been impressed with Chanel’s beauty range. (Read our expert’s opinion on just one of the products in their line-up.) For this road-test, we’re giving Chanel’s latest Palette Essentielle, the centrepiece of its Fall/Winter 2017 collection, a spin to see if it’s worth your money.

Here’s what you need to know about the colour story. Inspired by the Spring 2018 runway, this palette aims to provide ‘makeup minimalism’ for the modern woman; ergo,  an effortless natural glow and polished look.

Said to be a one-for-all palette, it comes in a sleek handbag-friendly compact for touch-ups on the go. Each palette features three shades meant for concealing, highlighting and adding a dash of colour to the cheeks and lips. Plus, it comes in three different intensities; Beige Clair, Beige Medium and Beige Intense to suit just about any skin tone with a bit of custom blending.

For our review, we’ve chosen the Beige Medium shade.

We love the creamy balm-like formula of the concealer, which glides on rather smoothly. Unlike messy liquid formulas, it does not crinkle or crease when you move your face, so that’s a definite plus.

While it is said to contain spherical particles that are supposed to blur imperfections to create a flattering, soft-focus effect, we thought that wasn’t really obvious, at least to the naked eye. However, the coverage is pretty high, which is great because you only need a little dab of it to blend it out thoroughly. Here are some tips on how to apply on concealer properly.

If you’re not into iridescent or high-shine highlighters, then this is the palette for you. The beautifully blendable and buttery formula applies easily, leaving a delicate luminosity and a healthy-looking radiance.

The finish is nothing too shimmery, boasting just the right amount of shine for a subtle and sophisticated glow. We teach you how to highlight for a soft strobing effect.

Now for the last dash of colour. The velvety blush of each palette is very buildable and versatile; think application on both cheeks and lips. Not only does that save you some lipstick-choosing time, it ties the whole look together with one uniform colour.

Bonus: The colour payoff is pretty good, giving your cheeks a rosy blush without much effort on your part. Of course, you can layer it on for a more intense look if you’re heading out for a date night, but do be careful not to make these blusher mistakes.

So, it is a one-for-all palette that’s the one to beat? A definite yes. It conceals well, provides a radiant glow and gives you a natural-looking blush with a few simple swipes. The soft and subtle colours give a fresh-faced appearance that’s superb for everyday use.

Then let’s talk about the sleek compact. It is very portable, meaning you can stash it in a handbag, a clutch or even a wristlet, providing you with the convenience of touching up any time of the day. So yes, Chanel’s Palette Essentielle is worth the splurge. #HappyShopping!
