Now, I’m going to be unabashed in this review… I confess that the words “silky crème” in Laura Mercier‘s new lipstick range were what bought me over. Here’s what I alluded the name to: a milk chocolate fondue; in all its creamy, decadent, and silky glory. Just saying it out loud (try it, you’ll see what I mean) hints at some sort of delicious luxury – now imagine that in a lipstick formula.

And if anything, the Parisian-New York brand certainly knows how to tug on the heartstrings of any lipstick junkie. The Rouge Essentiel Silky Crème Lipsticks are smoother than any smooth-talker you’ve ever met – on the inside, and the outside. It’s formula is infused with Mediterranean Sea extract, a powerful ingredient that moisturises and smooths dry and/or chapped lips for celebrity-esque pouts.

But wait – that’s only part one. When you do actually glide on the lipstick though, that’s when sparks will fly. So smooth is its make-up that application was fuss-free – no dragging, no patchiness – quite like butter on the lips (but in a good way, of course). Now you understand the milk chocolate fondue imagery, yes?

I had to rope in the HW Beauty Team on this lippie; peep our reviews below:

Melissa, beauty editor

Melissa used shade Rose VIF.

Packaging: ♡ Looks luxe with its shiny finish and magnetic cap and feels weighty in hand. But the shiny exterior tends to get messed up with fingerprints from the moment you touch it.

Texture: ♥ I love that it isn’t waxy and doesn’t have that cosmetic lipstick scent.

Ease of use: ♥ The moment the lipstick bullet touches your lips it imparts vivid colour very smoothly. Basically it goes on like a dream.

Immediate after-feel: ♥ It leaves lips feeling supple and hydrated like my favourite balm does.

Results: ♥ The colour fills lips out gorgeously and makes them look plumper thanks to the smooth, moist finish with a natural sheen. And after a meal of fried fish soup, it left an even stain that still looked presentable.

Price: ♥ At $40 it is cheaper than some luxury brand lipsticks but it performed very well for me. I can see myself using this up so I deem it worth buying.

Verdict: ♥♥♥♥♥

Chelsea, beauty writer

Chelsea used shade Nude Nouveau.

Packaging: ♡ I love how luxuriously heavy the lipstick feels when you hold it, but you’ll inevitably leave fingerprint marks on the reflective surface, which I don’t fancy.

Texture: ♥ Buttery and smooth – no dragging at all, even on dry lips.

Ease of use: ♥ Glides on like a dream. Can’t sing enough praises of the silky formula, though the inexperienced might want to go slow with it; lest you end up drawing outside your lip line.

Immediate after-feel: ♥ Weightless – I almost forgot I had anything on. I realised that the moisturising formula helped to smooth out tiny dry patches on my lips, too.

Results: ♥ I had a currypuff and a can drink after putting the lipstick on, and nothing budged. The lipstick sets to a satin-cream finish, so it doesn’t dry out your lips, nor does it look overly shiny. I loved how kissable my lips looked.

Price: ♥ I’ve tried lipsticks of the same price, that gave not-as-great results. I was already a fan of Laura Mercier’s Velour Extreme Matte Lipstick, but I’d go as far to say that they out-did themselves with this Rouge Essentiel Silky Crème launch. Take my money!

Verdict: ♥♥♥♥♥

The Laura Mercier Rouge Essentiel Silky Crème Lipstick costs $40, and is sold at the Laura Mercier flagship store, Sephora outlets and on www.sephora.sg.
