1. PHS Hairscience ADV Argan Oil, $69

Hair oils can be hit-or-miss – some are too rich, others are too light. But this one, infused with argan and sunflower seed oils, strikes the right balance for my coarse hair. I applied two pumps on damp hair and blow-dried it. The result: smooth and manageable tresses, a far cry from the frizzy mess I often have to deal with after heat styling. – Jaclyn Gunasilan, associate beauty editor

2. Goldwell Dualsenses Ultra Smooth Smoothening Oil, $40

This serum may appear oily, but its lightweight texture didn’t leave my thick hair looking greasy. I did notice some flyaways after a few hours, but I was most impressed by how smooth and tangle-free my hair still was at the end of the day. If you don’t like strong odours or fragrances, this product has a very faint scent, which becomes almost unnoticeable once it’s on your hair. – Alyssa Nicole Dhaliwal, Herworldplus.com beauty writer

3. Aveda Smooth Infusion Nourishing Styling Creme, $52

Just a pea-sized amount of this lightweight cream coats my shoulder-length mane from root to tip. What’s impressive is that it makes my slightly wavy hair look straighter and super smooth. My tresses still retain their volume without feeling weighed down, unlike with other anti-humidity products I’ve tried. I also love how the essential oils in it keep my hair smelling fresh all day! – Charmaine Lee, beauty writer

4. Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Night Cap Overnight Perfector, $36

Dubbed “beauty sleep for hair” by Living Proof, this overnight leave-in treatment promises a head of glossy, smooth locks in the morning. I used two pumps on damp hair, let it air-dry and went to bed. I was worried that the product would make my hair feel greasy or stain my pillow, but the lotion-like cream was absorbed easily and didn’t leave stains. In the morning, my usually unruly mane looked healthier, shinier and much softer, as if I’d just had an in- salon treatment. – Carina Koh, beauty writer

5. Moroccanoil Smoothing Mask, $72

I use hair masks at least once a week to tame my frizzy locks. This one is thick and creamy, but still a breeze to wash off. It’s infused with argan oil and argan butter to condition hair and keep strands hydrated. Once I washed it off, my hair felt way softer for three days and didn’t frizz – even after my hot yoga class! – Carina Koh
