You’ve probably seen one of these videos floating around social media: A woman puts on a thick layer of a jelly-like gloss, but it surprisingly dries up and peels right off her lips, leaving a natural-looking lip colour worthy of a Korean drama star.

This new product is the lip tattoo and its unusual application method is making it one of the biggest Korean beauty trends this year.

There’s more: Apparently, lip tattoos like the SkinAZ The Kissable 24H Lip Tattoo that I tested, serve as a multi-purpose lip care product. That means that it moisturises like a lip mask, exfoliates your lips and then leaves a healthy wash of colour that requires no touching up for the whole day.

I used a generous, pearl-sized amount of the product in the shade Sexy Red on clean, bare lips. This was a lot more than I actually needed to cover the area, but this also allowed me to peel off the product easily afterwards.

It stung slightly, the same way a lip plumper does, and it took about 10 minutes to dry. The process was comfortable and fairly painless. The product was easy to peel off as well, although there were instances where I had to “roll off” any leftover pieces that were still stuck on the dry patches of my lips.

These areas were sometimes stained a darker colour, but the overall result was a natural berry finish that I liked. I do struggle with very dry lips on a daily basis, so I did not see much of a significant improvement on that end.

The lasting power however, was one that I was very impressed with. The product stayed on my lips despite the numerous cups of coffee and light snacking I did. It faded evenly with time into a light pink stain, after lunch.

SkinAZ The Kissable 24H Lip Tattoo, $24.90, is available in four shades at Sasa, BHG and online at
