Perfect your eyeshadow: Shades that suit your eye colour

It’s not just about co-ordinating with your outfit colour, make sure you take into account the actual shade of your eyes the next time you apply your make-up.

Blue eyes look great when they’re made up with pale golds, minky browns, brown-greens, warm bronzes and purple shades. The darker shades work best when creating a smokey eye effect; just add lashings of mascara and a flick of eye liner. Any of you blue-eyed girls out there should steer clear of pinky colours as they have a tendency to make your eyes look redder. Blue eye shadow is also a big no no.

For those of you with emerald-like peepers, stick to yellow-toned beiges, dark greens and greys to really bring out those sparkling elements that make others green with envy. Rich violets and purples also look hot and make eyes look even more vibrant, but be sure not to fall victim to a colour overload, and lose the uniqueness of your irises.

It’s estimated that over half of the world’s population have brown eyes, but that doesn’t equate to bad news. In fact brown eyes can carry off nearly all eye shadow colours, but dark browns and khakis look particularly great. A more reddish-brown will add extra depth too. And a subtle sweep of blue can also bring out your eyes; just don’t go overboard with the marine colours as you may end up looking like a 1980’s show girl.

If you have more of a hazel hue with warm golden or bronze flecks, than emphasise them with rich yellow golds.

Black and Asian skin tones look particularly stunning with bright colours. Your skin has the depth of colour to pull off really bright shades, so don’t shy away from bold tints such as blue and green. Similarly warm golden tones also look great, but beware not all metallics do. Silvers can look too harsh so tread carefully.

So be a bit more adventurous and go bold with your eye make-up choices. With the addition of mascara and eyeliner, people will never look at you in the same way again. They say the eyes are the windows to our souls, so make sure those windows are looking as pretty as can be.
