GARNIER SPECIAL

The last few years, the trend in cosmetics has been to use more stuff (thanks, Korea). And we’re totally down with that – when we’re in the mood, there’s nothing lovelier than indulging in a long beauty ritual. But at the end of a long day, we sometimes look at all this stuff and think… Ugh. We don’t want to pamper – we just want to sleep.

Tempting as it may be, we do not encourage falling into bed in full makeup – that can cause problems from acne to wrinkles. At the very least, you need to cleanse (and maybe slap a little moisturiser on too). The problem is that thorough cleansing typically takes time.

Enter micellar waters, those innocuous looking clear liquids that promise to strip away makeup fast, without being harsh. This is thanks to micelles (tiny oil particles suspended in water) that grab dirt and dissolve it, no rubbing required.

Garnier created Micellar Cleansing Water in 2014 and it quickly became the UK and US’s bestselling micellar water. It’s ideal for those who wear lighter makeup and skip the waterproof mascara. Identify it by its pink cap and label.

Now, it’s available in a new version, with blue cap and label, that promises to remove even waterproof mascara. The secret? It’s the world’s first dual-phase micellar water (it has two layers and needs to be shaken before use). The top layer contains powerful makeup-removing agents, while the other has pure micellar water. The oil-free combination is gentle on skin, but tough on makeup and grime. It’ll remove even the smokiest smoky eye in one sweep, leaving skin cleansed, refreshed and hydrated, with no need for further cleansing.

Sensitive skin hates air-con, stress and poor diets, but those are par for the course if you have an office job. Three things that can really send it into a spin are oil, alcohol and fragrance. Garnier’s dermatologically tested micellar waters contain none of these, so everyone can use them without fear of breakouts or reactions.

The original micellar water is the number 1 in its category in 23 countries and the waterproof mascara version looks set to be just as successful – it’s being raved about by bloggers and on sites like Makeupalley. Both are made in the US.

Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water Even Waterproof Mascara (blue version) is priced $19.90 and is available at Watsons, Guardian and major super/hypermarkets. The original Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water (pink version) is priced $17.90 and is exclusively available at Guardian stores.
