Those who hate needles can rejoice, for the laser technology PicoSure, already used for tattoo removal and for reshaping acne scars, has received FDA clearance to treat wrinkles and fine lines.

Clinical studies reported a patient satisfaction rate of 84 percent at the time of the first month follow-up, and 92 percent satisfaction at the fourth month follow-up.

PicoSure received FDA clearance to treat acne scars on July 29 and the company reports that clinical studies showed that 77 percent of patients achieved more than 50 percent improvement as assessed by the physician.

Parent company Cynosure distributes its products in 120 countries around the world, and PicoSure is available in Europe, Asia and North America.

Laser treatments are nothing new, and other options include Sharplight, which has a trio of machines that work at different speeds for treatments including the reduction of acne scars and fine lines.
