Art and beauty are two of our favourite things in the world.

And you know that Christmas is here early, when one of the most important and well-loved visual artist in the 20th century has inspired a new makeup line.

Cult makeup brand NARS will be launching the new limited edition collection inspired by Andy Warhol in November.

Founder of NARS, François Nars, was inspired by the spirit of Warhol and worked with the Warhol Foundation to create an extensive 29-piece range as a tribute to the New York trendsetter.

From limited edition eyeshadow palettes to nail colours, every item in the collection screams Warhol.

Imagine Warhol’s likeness being silk-screened onto an eyeshadow palette mimicking the colours in his paintings – something as simple as eyeshadow colours, have now been transformed into a collectible work of art.

The icing on the cake has got to be the inscriptions on the mirrors of the same palette, with sayings like “I’ve never met a person I couldn’t call a beauty” and “Art is what you can get away with.” – simply brilliant.

Throughout the collection, the Warhol touch is also seen through the names of the various gift sets – like the Edie Gift Set – an homage to Edie Sedgwick, an it girl in the sixties, and Warhol’s muse.

The shadow pencils are also appropriately named “Empire”, “Trash”, “Silver Factory” and “Heat” after iconic Warhol films.

The nail colours follow suit, with one named “15 Minutes” after Warhol’s famous 1968 quote, “In the future, everybody will be world-famous for 15 minutes.”

“New York Dolls” and “Back Room” are also names for nail hues, with the former referring to an American rock band, formed in New York in 1971 and the latter pointing to the back room of Max’s Kansas City, a nightclub where Warhol frequented in the mid-sixties.

But what’s a collection without the colours.

According to François Nars, “Colour is so important! I like colours that are honest – I think that the shade you see in the pan or the tube is how the color should appear on your face, so I’m always pushing our chemists to add more pigment. That’s why I love the saturated colors Andy used in his work – reds, blues, yellows. He was so unafraid to be bold.”

And keeping true to Warhol’s spirit, the collection is peppered with bright bold shades of blues, greens, yellows, orange and reds – perfect for channeling all of his muses, from Sedgwick to Debbie Harry to Candy Darling.

In a nutshell, Nars sums it up perfectly, “This collection is confident, graphic, and I hope women embrace that.”

We can’t wait.

The NARS x Andy Warhol Silver Factory Holiday 2012 collection and the NARS x Andy Warhol Colour Collection Holiday 2012 will be launched at the NARS counter located at Tangs Beauty Hall at the end of November 2012.
