The spotlight may have been on the clothes but mega-manicures have had the beauty world buzzing throughout the Fall/Winter 2013 runway shows.

From dramatic 3D effects to super-chic nudes, fingertips were fabulously fashion-forward with a whole host of inventive shapes and hues.

Talons were lace-patterned at Emerson, stiletto-shaped at Donna Karan and bejewelled at Libertine.

We caught up with fashion week make-up artist and manicurist extraordinaire Sam Landesberg to find out what trends we’ll be rocking this fall.

“New York Fashion Week was incredible this year – hectic but incredible,” says Sam, who tended to the nails at Victoria Beckham, Catherine Malandrino and Betsey Johnson.

Here is Sam’s exclusive runway trend report.

Catherine Malandrino
At the Malandrino show, I worked with Michelle Class who was the creative director on nails for the show. Nails were neat and natural using a custom blend colour from new nail collection Morgan Taylor, which will soon be available to buy globally so keep an eye out for that.

Betsey Johnson
For the first show we pre-made stick-on nails painting them black with the letters spelling out ‘BJ KICKS A’ (the name of the designer’s gym wear collection) on each fingernail. The other half of the models had nail enhancements in a bold bright white for the evening wear collection. For the enhancements we used Elegant Touch and the polish was by Morgan Taylor.

For Betsey’s second show – which was crazy and filmed for Style TV – we used natural nail enhancements painted with all different coloured glitters to correspond with their outfits.

Victoria Beckham
At the Victoria Beckham show, the theme was clean and natural nails using a very, very sheer polish – just one coat of it. This was all about a clean natural looking fresh nail. – © Cover Media
