From The Straits Times    |

It’s beauty products galore as a beauty writer but actually it has always been that way with me. I had my first lipstick when I was 14 – a dark chocolate brown colour that was all the rage at that time. That paired with eyeliner drawn on the inner lids of the eyes. Ouch. A friend taught me how to do it and I thought it was the bomb.

It was also around that time that I had a full skincare regime going already – cleanser, toner, moisturiser (The Body Shop Tea Tree range). I also carried an umbrella with me everywhere to shield me from the sun’s harmful rays. I was using Biore and Nivea whitening products religiously by the time I was 16 and turned to Olay for preventive-ageing when I turned 20.

Some things stuck – the skincare regimen and the umbrella-toting habit – while others passed – dark brown lippie and lining the waterline of my eyes.

Over the years, very much like clothing and fashion styles, you realise what beauty products and habits work best for you. But the best part is that things keep evolving – from technology to trends and concerns. And there are always newer, better things to try whether with makeup or skincare. For example, there are new skincare steps like the Clarins Infusions to add before toning and new techniques in makeup. This has never been a hassle or an issue for beauty junkies like me. If that extra step will make my skin or makeup look better… I’d say bring it on.
