Imagine if you could analyse your skin at home without going to a beauty counter or salon.

You would then be able to zoom in on the correct skincare for your different concerns, or direct your facialist to pay attention to certain areas at your next treatment, and later, check that the problems have been addressed.

French skincare brand La Roche-Posay developed Effaclar Spotscan, a DIY digital diagnosis tool, to do this. For more than two years, it worked with dermatologists to analyse the pictures of over 6,000 men and women of different ethnicities, skin types and acne severity. The pictures form the database the algorithm draws on to instantly analyse your skin.

Go to https://sg.spotscan.com, which will direct you to snap front and side-profile photos of your face. The app then immediately shows where the zits, blackheads and pigmentation marks are, and gives you a skin-grading score (from one for clear skin to five for severe skin problems). Then it recommends which skincare products to use, and if you wish, which specific La Roche-Posay products to buy.

You can even scan your face daily to understand what your skin needs that day and tailor your skincare accordingly.

Tip: Don't wear makeup, and take the pictures in good lighting for the most accurate results.
