Who doesn’t want to walk around with a sunkissed glow, looking like you’d just spent a weekend frolicking by the beach? Truth is, when it comes to accentuating your skin and features, many women tend to make mistakes and end up with a ruddy tone, or harsh and unflattering lines. To get it right, we speak to Fenty Beauty’s Global Makeup Artist, Hector Espinal, to get all his expert tips:

#1: Know The Difference

When it comes to accentuating your face, many women get confused with the different terms: highlighting, contouring and bronzing. According to Espinal, “highlighting is to bring light to your face and bring it out and upwards, whereas contouring and applying bronzer brings the area in”. This explains why we normally only apply highlighters to the higher planes of our face like the tops of the cheekbones, nose bridge, chin and forehead.

#2: Bronzers and Contouring Products Are Not The Same

“There is a misconception that bronzer is contouring. That’s not true. Bronzers should be applied to add a sunkissed glow, a post-vacation glow to your skin, which adds warmth to your complexion,” explains Espinal. “Bronzers are not the right products to use if you want to sculpt your features, because bronzers have red undertones to warm up your complexion,” he elaborates.

#3: Choosing The Right Contour Shade

“Always choose one to two shades darker than your natural skin tone. Don’t go too far off or you will end up looking harsh,” says Espinal.

#4: How To Properly Apply Bronzer

“Make sure you start with the correct brush. Fenty Beauty’s Sculpting Bronzer Brush 195, $50, is specially designed to fit the contours of your face and blends product seamlessly,” advises Espinal. “Use it to apply the new Sun Stalk’r Instant Warmth Bronzer, $46, in light touches, focusing on areas where the sun naturally hits the face, including the forehead, cheeks and the decollete,” he adds. “The formula is matte, blendable, buildable and gives a natural finish,” says Espinal.

#5: Adding A Summer Touch

“Another way to impart a post-vacation glow on your complexion is using the new Killawatt Foil Freestyle Highlighter shade in Penny4UThots, $54. Just like all of the Killawatt textures, it has a cream-to-powder finish and is universally flattering enough to be used on all skin tone. Apply the warm coppery shade directly onto your cheekbones to make them pop,” explains Espinal.
