There are a ton of tutorials out there espousing any number of ways to achieve that perfect set of brows, often with varying degrees of complexity. While it’s true that no two pairs of brows are the same, there are a number of basics that apply to everyone. Even if you’ve never tried drawing your brows before, these tips will ensure perfect brows in a single swipe.

SELECTING YOUR TOOLS

If you’re a newbie, chances are that you’re somewhat intimidated by the sheer number of products out there. Unless you’re fairly experienced, we wouldn’t recommend using eyebrow powders or gels. Those techniques take time to master and it wouldn’t do to spend more than 20 minutes trying to nail your perfect brows before your hectic work commute.
Eyebrow pencils are much easier to work with, and look just as good! A brow pencil with a thick tip will deliver the quickest results by far. Crayons like Maybelline’s Fashion Brow Pomade Crayon, $16.90, available in 4 shades are highly pigmented and only require a quick swipe to attain your perfect brow shape, without having to go back in and fill any bare gaps. This creamy and super blendable formula is forgiving for beginners!

TIP!
Apply by tilting crayon at 45 degrees
to keep tip tapered at all times

FINDING YOUR SHAPE

We’ll admit, it’s tempting to attempt to replicate those dramatic Instagram brows with glamorous arches and the sharpest points at the get-go. Realistically, though, more natural brows are just as beautiful when it comes to everyday makeup. If you’re a novice, following the natural curve of your brow shape is advisable. The practice will help you to get a better idea of what best flatters your natural features so as to determine whether or not to alter the shape at all.

YOUR FOOLPROOF RULE ON WHERE TO START DRAWING

For anyone with relatively sparse eyebrows, a common point of confusion is where to start drawing. Here’s how. First, imagine a vertical line starting from the corner of your nose and extending up to the brow hairs. This point is where to start shading.

TIP!
We highly recommend threading or tweezing your brows before you start drawing them, especially if you’re looking to alter your brow shape slightly.

THE FINISHING TOUCHES

Do remember to use a spoolie to soften up the smaller hairs at the start of your eyebrows. Having that slight fade transitioning into the fuller body of the brow will make it look a lot more natural and feminine!
Don’t try to create a brow where there is none, though, as overfilling an empty patch of skin will only make it more obvious that you’ve drawn it in. As with all good makeup, a little really does go a long way.
Now you have all you need to know to create those perfect brows for some perfect selfies!
