Pimples always have a way of appearing at the worst possible times… when you’re prepping for your first date, your best friend’s wedding or a big night out for instance. That’s why every girl needs an emergency rescue kit.
While makeup can do wonders to conceal bad skin and save the day, it may also seriously backfire. When chosen wrongly, it can further clog pores, irritate troubled skin and aggravate your acne situation.
As a rule of thumb, look for gentle products formulated for troubled skin, as well as non-comedogenic formulas that won’t clog pores. Also opt for products that camouflage zits flawlessly, heal while they conceal, and stay put throughout the day.
Colour correcting fixes
When it comes to acne coverage, less is more. Thick mask-like concealers that ‘crack’ whenever you smile are a big NO-NO. Instead, pick correct-correcting formulas with green or yellow undertones, or red-cancelling pigments that neutralise redness. Never use a luminous concealer or one with pink undertones as those draw more attention to your pimples.
Heals while it conceals
Invest in formulas with skincare benefits that treat blemishes while covering them up. Some ingredients to look out for include salicylic acid to unclog pores, clay to absorb excess sebum and impurities, and tea tree oil to eliminate acne-causing bacteria.
Whiteheads, blackheads and pimples appear when hair follicles become plugged with sebum and dead skin cells. In other words, oily skin is more prone to breakouts. These products regulate excessive sebum to reduce acne and keep your makeup fresh from AM to PM.
Skin repair formulas
Angry red zits are a sign of skin inflammation. If left untreated, they can also develop into nasty scars. To address this, look out for makeup with skin defence and rejuvenating ingredients.
