Katy Perry unveils new Killer Queen fragranceSet for release next month, the pop star’s latest perfume was apparently inspired by Freddie Mercury’s famous lyrics.

Appearing in a jewelled bottle, apparently inspired by a royal scepter, Killer Queen is Perry’s third fragrance after the feline-inspired Purr (2010) and Meow (2011). And it was the lyrics penned by the famous frontman of British rock band Queen that inspired the juice, according to the 28-year-old singer:

“Freddie Mercury painted the lyrics of this woman who I wanted to be. She seemed very powerful, and she captivated a room when she walked in,” Perry told WWD. “I feel like, after all this time, it was appropriate to use that name in association with something I did. I feel like I’m falling, finally, into that woman Freddie painted,” she added.

Killer Queen was created by the pop star herself, working with Laurent Le Guernec of International Flavors & Fragrances (the French nose who has also concocted scents for Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors and fellow pop star Mariah Carey).

The scent opens with wild berry, dark plum and bergamot; developing a velvet flower, jasmine rainbow plumeria heart, before a drydown of cashmeran, patchouli and praline.

The eau de parfum will retail in four sizes: 0.5 oz. ($20), 1 oz. ($39.99), 1.7 oz. ($49.99) and 3.4 oz. ($59.99). You’ll also be able to get your hands on a body lotion and shower gel for $25 each.

With a tagline of ‘Own the Throne’, the print ads were shot by famed fashion photographer Tim Walker, while Swedish music video director Jonas Åkerlund has directed a commercial set to drop at the end of August.
