Remember your first visit to a hot spring overseas? Not quite what you imagined when you first stepped into the room, I bet. All those pictures you see online of ladies wrapped in fluffy towels, each soaking in a bathtub – far from it. (Just a heads up for those who haven’t been to one, the shock is nasty.)

But the horror of being nude in front of everyone else only lasts for a moment, says Jesseca Liu. It turned out to be a pretty good experience, and she even picked up a few beauty tips from other ladies at the public bath.

The actress shared this with us in an e-mail interview, on top of more beauty tips, including the best thing to eat for radiant skin. You’ll want to take it from her: this face of estetica beauty always sports perfectly glowing skin – just look at her “bare-faced” pictures if you need any proof.

What’s the most outrageous thing you’ve done in the name of beauty?
A few years ago, while planning for a holiday to Taiwan, I was told that hot springs are really good for the skin in helping to keep it smooth and radiant. So we put a visit to a hot spring into our itinerary.

But when we arrived, I was surprised to find out that it is a public hot spring and everyone has to be completely nude in order to enter. I was having second thoughts as I’ve never been in a public hot spring with so many strangers, not to mention in the company of my friends. It was definitely a little awkward and embarrassing for a first-timer like me. Eventually, I decided to go for it and I realised that it was actually pretty crowded. In fact, during our time in the hot spring, we got some tips from some of the other older Taiwanese ladies who were there at the same time.

What do you eat to keep your skin looking this radiant?
Every morning, I have a spoonful of Manuka honey before I take anything else. I love honey lemon juice as well, and i drink a lot it throughout the day. So at home, I’m never short of honey and lemon and I will always have a few drops of lemon in everything that I eat.

What’s one beauty trend you’re crazy about now?
I’m loving nano bio-cellulose masks right now as it adheres comfortably to the skin, and it allows me to do other things in the meantime, making the time spent doing masks more enjoyable! The masks I love are the Estetica ést.lab VitaLift A+ Brillage Face Mask and the OptimaLift A+ Eye Contour Mask. The bio-cellulose material of the masks enables it to adhere very well to the skin for the beneficial ingredients to penetrate deeply.

Share with us one surprising beauty tip.
After applying the VitaLift A+ Brillage Face Mask, I will use the remaining facial essence on my elbows and knees to moisturise it, because there’s still plenty of facial essence left. I think it is a waste to throw it away after using it for only 20 minutes, so I will use every single drop – totally worth it!

Tell us about one beauty tip you’ve learnt from your mother that you hold close to your heart.
Since I was young, my mum has always emphasised the importance of sunscreen. My mum has really good complexion. With the exception of a few age spots, you can’t tell that she’s 59 this year. We grew up in Langkawi where it is sunny all year round. When she was young, she wasn’t told about the importance of sunscreen, so over time she developed pigmentation. She didn’t want the same thing to happen to me so she taught me all about the benefits of using sunscreen and how to apply it.
