If there’s one colour to remember this month of April, this is it: Coral.

As authority on astrology and “colour-scope” connoisseur (yes, there’s such a thing) Rose Theodora puts it, this effervescent and enlivening hue helps to “counteract” combative celestial forces in the ether this month for good health and wealth – and what better way to incorporate coral into your cosmetics than a tantalising touch of tangerine on your talons?

Cowed by the prospect of looking clownish? Don’t be. In a happy stroke of “luck” (so to speak), coral polish is as universally flattering as it is fortune-bearing. Worn judiciously as an accent colour, coral nails lend an instantly brightening effect to your entire ensemble.

The versatile peach-pink spectrum coral straddles affords you an expansive wonderland of warm to cool hues to play around with – there really is a shade of coral to complement any complexion.

Creamy corals that are just this side of orange – think Mac Cosmetics’ covetable Studio Nail Lacquer in Impassioned – make for an incredibly pleasing pop against dark skin. On the other “hand” (ha!), pinkish products like Nailing Hollywood’s Nail Polish in Cork play off the blue undertones of pale skin. If you’re a porcelain princess, give sheer salmon shades the thumbs up.

How to wear

Here’s how to nail this month’s most lucky and lust-worthy lacquer. Dispense with #NailArt embellishments and use a single solid hue – less mess, less stress – and keep your nail bed neatly trimmed and nicely rounded.

On a practical note, the punchiness of a peachy polish will also mask any blemishes on your nails, plus it’ll make for a spectacular counterpoint to any contemporary silhouette: Think of the pop of colour this polish will provide when paired with a breezy blue blouse, for instance.

Having said that, a wee caveat is in order. An orangey coral is most definitely not the shade for a “stiletto” silhouette; you’ll run the risk of looking like a witchy farmer in a Halloween pumpkin patch!

You may also want to consider doing the matchy-matchy thing and pairing your polish with a complementary coral stain on your smackers – very Korean and ultra “ulzzang”, don’t you think. Tadah, an office-ready mani that’s “editorial” and runway-ready, but infinitely wearable if you’re game for a gamble. What’s not to love?

All hands on deck? Have fun gussying up your tippy-toes, I’ll be looking forward to seeing your lucky coral polish come #ManicureMonday!
