No one disputes the fact that nails are the latest fashion accessory and the great designers put as much thought into hair and makeup as they do into shoes and bags.

Spotting the next trend in lipsticks has become equally important to predicting the next trend for jewellery.

If you want to be one in on the trends, be sure to pick up nail varnish in one of the season’s two top shades – dark red or neutral nude.

Several beauty brands are bringing out polish in these shades this fall – Dior, Chanel and Essie to name a few.

But how to pick the right shade for you?

It all comes down to the colour of your skin. Cool colour looks great on cooler complexions, warm colours work better on warmer skin colours such as golden or peachy. Both nude and red can be found in cooler (blue based) or warmer (yellow or orange based) nuances.

You’re not sure if you are a cool cat or a warmer type?

Stand in natural light and look at your arm. Skin with pink, blue or red undertones is considered cool. Skin with golden, beige, or olive is considered warm. If you still can’t tell, look at your wrist. If your veins look blue, you have a cool undertone. If your veins look green, you have a warm undertone. If you still can’t determine your undertone, you might be neutral and you’re lucky because you can wear most colours. © Cover Media
