Never underestimate the power of a 1950s Hollywood star. Old school glamour is back in a big way this season – think classic bold looks with a hint of shimmer and you won’t be far wrong.
Along with the big beauty brand M.A.C, who has gone to town on the theme with its Marilyn Monroe collection, other lines and re-launches are emerging that follow this return to retro too.
Modestly priced beauty brand Avon have got in on the act. Their take on the trend is with the Femme Fatale eye palette. Inside you’ll be able to perfect that screen siren smokey eye with black and gold, vintage pink and a razzle dazzle of shimmering white.
Dolce & Gabbana
When it comes to good old fashioned drama Dolce & Gabbana know how to do it well. They have revived the brand’s red lipstick called Iconic, but updated it with a modern and uber glamorous new package as it now comes in leopard print for the Animalier signature collection.
As well as the Marilyn line of make-up, M.A.C have pulled it out the bag with their Holiday collection this year (featured above). The beauty brand has partnered with artist and fashion influencer Liz Goldwyn for their seasonal offering entitled Fabulousness. Inspired by Liz’s vintage style and love for lingerie, the range features touches of leopard and lace, drawn from her own collection. Liz worked with M.A.C in her HBO documentary Pretty Things on the last of the great American burlesque artists. “I like that good-bad duality, and they’re both pretty and durable,” she explained about her collection. “I travel constantly and have been road-testing them for nine months. I like the idea that you can infiltrate the masses but put a piece of education or history on it.”
