With flu alerts on the increase, antibacterial gels have become something of a handbag must-have – particularly when you’re away from home or on holiday.
In fact, over the past five years, sales of the handy sanitizers have rocketed with consumers eager to keep bugs at bay with good hand hygiene.
The best ways to prevent spreading germs is simple.
Firstly, cover your mouth and nose when you sneeze or cough, and if you do that with your hands, wash them immediately afterwards.
And secondly, clean your hands often, always before you eat or prepare food, and after you use the bathroom or change a diaper.
Unfortunately not all people live by these rules and if you’re heading off on holiday, you might want to take some extra precautions – especially if you’re going to a country where the bacterial flora is different than where you live.
While washing your hands with soap for 20 seconds will kill almost all germs, hot running water is not always a possibility.
Now we not only bring the sanitizers to exotic countries, we bring them to our holiday homes as well as to restaurants and picnics too.
While the packages used to be a bit medical looking and products smelt like hospitals, today there are several sexier and more beautiful options.
