It’s 2019. Haircare products go beyond just shampoo and conditioners (we have a whole list of award-winning ones here); thanks to advanced technology that’s made products a lot more useful in our daily lives. We mean, we never quite saw the importance of hair serums – not until they proved to curb hair fall, a common problem among stressed-out working executives. Who’d ever thought we’d be able to curl our hair without having to do it manually – well, Dyson did – and we’re thoroughly marvelled.

And those are just two of our favourite innovative hair products. Peek the rest below – tried, tested and curated by Her World editors:

MOST INNOVATIVE PRODUCT: ANTI-GREY HAIR SPRAY: Phyto RE30, $100

The biggest draw of this product is how impressively “free” it is: It’s scent-, colour-, texture- and even weight-free (it feels like water when misted onto grey/ greying areas). It doesn’t colour or cover grey hair, but rather, has a patented peptide to boost melanin production so that coloured (instead of white) hair grows out. Our tester likens it to a “scalp essence” because of how quickly it gets absorbed.

MOST INNOVATIVE STYLING TOOL: Dyson Airwrap, $699

It’s the home-styling tool that’ll help you achieve a salon-like blowout without the heat damage. The set comes with a pre-styling dryer (to help get hair from wet to damp for easier styling), three airbrushes (each for a different hair type) and four curling barrels (in two sizes, each to curl your hair in one direction). To get sleek, straight strands, use the smoothing brushes – they help to tame frizz as well. For curls and waves, go for the curling barrels; the Airwrap has a vortex mechanism that wraps hair around the barrel without you having to do it manually.

MOST INNOVATIVE STYLING TOOL: GHD Glide Hot Brush, $275

Ceramic technology heats the brush uniformly to an optimum 185 deg C, said to be the best temperature for styling. Brush your hair the way you would with a hairbrush, and frizz-taming ions from the bristles help to smooth flyaways. The mix of short and long bristles covers more surface area with every sweep, shaving off styling time. End result: smooth, glossy and sleek hair in five minutes flat.

MOST INNOVATIVE PRODUCT: LEAVE-IN TREATMENT FOR PROGRESSIVE HAIR LOSS: Rene Furterer Triphasic Progressive, $295.80 for 16 bottles (5.5ml each)

Granted that some time is needed to finish massaging an entire bottle of serum into your scalp, but the directions are straightforward and the product doesn’t leave a residue. Our tester noticed less hair fall when using this, compared with other serums.
