Italian hairstylist Rossano Ferretti, 57, was once mentored by the late Vidal Sassoon.

What’s one thing that the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, has in common with actress Jennifer Lawrence and model Kate Moss? They all get their hair cut at the Rossano Ferretti Hairspa.

The man behind it is Rossano Ferretti himself. The Italian hair maestro has launched 23 salons under his name in major cities such as Paris, London, Dubai and Shanghai. And he now has one in Singapore at The Fullerton Hotel (#01-04) – his first in South-east Asia.

Ferretti charges $2,000 for a haircut, and only wields his scissors for charity or haircutting demos. While he doesn’t cut your hair himself, he has Christian Serafini from Beverly Hills and Diego Fiorucci from Rome, both of whom have worked with Ferretti for more than 20 years and are entrusted to run the Singapore salon. They charge $375-$510 for women’s haircuts, and $145-$260 for men’s cuts. Colour services go from $215-$410.

The place is quiet and uncluttered, without the noise and bustle typical of hair salons. It has just four cutting chairs, and two for colour. Only two chairs are filled at any one time.

What’s so special about the haircut that you’d want to pay so much money for it? It’s the Ferretti method. And it’s called The Method. Ferretti created the technique with his sister in 1994. It’s what he calls an invisible cut, which he does with patented texturing scissors that cut less hair with every snip than regular hairdressing scissors do. Why? It’s to enhance the natural flow and volume of your hair.

The Method has no specific geometric shape. It has nothing to do with trends or complex techniques.

You don’t have to put a Ferretti cut through hours of styling. You don’t have to use any styling products if you don’t want to. You don’t have to blow-dry your hair. It will still look good air-dried because the cut creates natural body in your hair.

The salon uses Rossano Ferretti Parma haircare products. You can also purchase the products for home use. It’s a line of cruelty-free haircare that is free of sulphates, parabens and phthalates. The items are priced from $60-$148.

Here’s another bonus: Unless you have a pixie cut, you won’t need frequent trims. Your hair will grow out beautifully without looking like a shaggy mess.

Ferretti applies his haircutting philosophy to hair colour as well, preferring to enhance what you naturally have. Using your base colour as a reference, he picks a hue just one or two shades away from it and applies the balayage technique to add dimension. He’ll never bleach it or give you a crazy fashion colour.
