From The Straits Times    |

While flat hair was never a concern in my teens and early 20s (puberty gave me some wild, frizzy and untameable hair), i’ve noticed my hair looking flatter as of late, and have been on the hunt for products that give my hair more volume while still leaving my hair soft and smooth. I’ve recently reviewed the Dove Volume and Nourishment range which I really liked, but there have been plenty of launches since then that are very much worth checking out, especially with hair volume being such a big concern in Singapore.

#1 Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging Miracle Multiplying Volume Mist, $48

Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging Miracle Multiplying Volume Mist, $48-best volumising spray

First on this list is a great “quick fix” option that lasts about a day. I tried this mist recently and was pleasantly surprised to find that it didn’t leave my hair feeling stiff or tangled. The name makes it sound almost life-changing, though I wouldn’t give it that much credit. However, it did do a very nice job of giving my hair a significant amount of volume, which truly lasted the entire day. I noticed a difference when I didn’t use it the next day, even going as far as feeling a little disappointed with my regular hair.

#2 Redken X Toni & Guy Beauty All-Access unlimited blowdry service, $299 for 30 days

If you’re someone who frequently spends money on blowouts or are simply willing to spend on something that can give you a huge confidence boost, the Beauty All-Access pass could be just the ticket. It costs $299 for a 30-day pass, and with it you get to enjoy an unlimited number of blowouts at Toni & Guy. There are few better ways to feel like you’re living the fab life.

#3 Philips MoistureProtect Dryer, $185

Philips MoistureProtect Dryer Singapore - best hair dryers singapore

A good hair dryer is an important investment, especially as someone with long and somewhat frizzy hair. I want a dryer that dries my hair fast and won’t leave me looking like a puffball. I’m the type of person who packs my hair dryer when traveling to another country, just to ensure my hair is treated well. I recently acquired the Philips MoistureProtect Dryer, and deemed it amazing enough to replace my previous favourite (coincidentally also a top-of-the-line Philips hair dryer I received from my mum as a teenager).

The MoistureProtect technology uses a sensor that diagnoses the moisture content of your hair and automatically adjusts the temperature to preserve the moisture in your hair. While this might sound counter-productive, it really makes a difference when it comes to your hair looking healthy after a blowout, instead of brittle and dried out. The technology ensures that the hair dryer is at the optimal drying temperature the entire time. Another thing worth noting is the Ionic Conditioning, which gives your hair a smooth and frizz-free finish. And technical specs aside, the hair dryer is just really pretty to look at.

#4 Ouai Wave Spray, $39 for 150ml

Best hair products for volume voluminous hair volumising hair products singapore - ouai wave spray

Sea salt hair sprays, while not as popular in Singapore where smooth silky hair is the dream, have been a hairstyling hit in many countries. The one reason I’ve never really liked sea salt sprays is how how tangled your hair gets and how crunchy it feels after. Jen Atkins, creator of Ouai, developed a wave spray that doesn’t use sea salt, but still gives your hair the desired body and texture. The key ingredient here is rice protein, and it’s formulated without parabens or animal testing! My hair still feels soft to the touch after using it, and it definitely gives my hair more volume. The lightweight spray is watery in texture, and smells of lemon with hints of white musk.

#5 Goldwell Kerasilk Repower Volume treatment & home care

Kerasilk repower volume shampoo conditioner - best volumising shampoo singapore

Earlier this year, Goldwell unveiled its new range of Kerasilk salon treatments to target various hair concerns. I got my hair diagnosed and was given a Kerasilk Reconstruct treatment to repair the intensive damage from a prior hair colouring job. The treatment and the take-home products truly transformed my hair, and my hair is still incredibly healthy many months later. If you’ve got thin or flat hair, you can try the Repower treatment for volume instead, which can give your hair a much-desired volume boost, and follow up with the take-home shampoo ($40), foam conditioner ($44), and blow-dry spray ($44) to really prolong the effects of the treatment. I got my treatment done at Chez Vous salon and quirky interior aside, the service was truly top notch.

#6 L’Oreal Paris Hair Expertise EverPure Volume Shampoo & Conditioner, $15.90 each

Best volumising shampoo singapore budget loreal everpure

L’Oreal Paris’ Hair Expertise range was the jumping off point from which I began my foray into more specialised shampoos and conditioners. I started with the EverSleek set, then the EverPure Colour care range, then Oleotherapy. The newer EverPure Volume range is made specially for fine, limp hair, with rosemary and juniper as natural active ingredients to provide antioxidants, sebum control and nourishment for the scalp to encourage healthier and more voluminous hair. Perfect for anyone looking for an affordable sulfate-free option that also protects coloured hair.
