 Antonio Berardi Spring Summer 13

From New York through to Paris, John Frieda Global Creative Consultant Luigi Murenu is celebrated as one of the most creative and talented in the industry. A regular backstage at Fashion Weeks around the world, he creates innovative and directional looks for advertising campaigns, films and editorial shoots, making him a total pro where the art of hairdressing is concerned.

Cover Media caught up with Luigi to find out what motivates his cutting-edge hairstyles. He also briefed us on how we can copy one of this Summer’s sleekest catwalk styles at home.

“Today women all want to be original. There is a certain coolness about the hair that women wear on the street today, so it is our job as hairdressers to keep things exciting – we have to keep reinventing,” Luigi revealed.

The vibe on the catwalk at Antonio Berardi’s Spring/Summer 13 show was sporty de luxe. The designer celebrated the shape of the woman’s silhouette by embracing casual but chic styles and bodycon garments.

“[To stay] in keeping with the sporty theme, add a flush of pretty pink blush for an ‘outdoorsy’ effect,” Luigi explained, before moving on to the hair.

“This look is sporty luxe, it’s a new and sophisticated take on the traditional braid: the rope braid. [To recreate it] prep hair with a frizz-ease perfecting crème and drape into a deep but soft centre parting, then tie into a ponytail in the middle of the head for an active sporty feel. Split the lengths of the ponytail into two sections and twist each section individually. Once both are twisted, cross each section over one another and secure with snag free hairbands. Set the look with a flexible hold hairspray and then finish with a glaze of glossing mist.” © Cover Media/ Photo: Showbit
