The bob’s back, baby. Now, before you long-locked lasses work yourself up into a lather, “hair” me out. I’m not persuading you to plunge straight into a pixie (although that spunky short ‘do certainly had its day in the spotlight).

I’m talking a “lob” of the longish variety, which is the kindest cut of all, really. Why? You get to test the tuft, so to speak, because this style’s shoulder-skimming length leaves you with just enough leeway for a sassy swing in your step.

Prime exhibit: Jourdan Dunn absolutely slaying the coiffure competition on the red carpet with her sleek new snip. Worn in a sharp side-part, I love how the subtle sombre hue also lends light to the supermodel’s startlingly chiselled cheekbones. Gorgeous.

For us mere mortals, the lob’s versatility should prove to be a big plus. Here’s how to get it “razor” right. Direct your dresser to layer the front for a feathery fringe you can “hide” under; if you’re adventurous, ask for a cool choppy cut you can muss up with a matte-finish wax when you’re ready to hit the clubs.

The lob’s as low maintenance as it gets, but there’s a tiny kink to bear in mind: You’ll have to invest in a really good de-frizzing product to prevent the ends from curling … which means it’s time for a little product placement!

All jesting aside, I’m in love with L’Oréal Paris’ Keratin Smooth Frizz Eraser, a heat-protective leave-in treatment which boasts what the beauty behemoth calls micro-keratin for superior smoothing power. Even more compelling? It claims to control pesky flyaways for up to 72 hours.

Another great hair hero to add to your arsenal? L’Oréal Professionnel’s Sealing Repair Lipidium, a silky serum that’s stuffed with lubricating lipids and cuticle-comforting ceramides, both of which promise to fortify brittle hair follicles for sumptuously shiny strands.

Follow up with a drop or two of a good hair oil to seal all of the goodness in. Opt for The Body Shop’s Wild Argan Oil Radiant Oil, a superfood for your tresses with its lock-loving linoleic acids and essential fatty acids – awesome for lending a really reflective mirror-like mirage. To use, dispense a drop and warm it up in your palms, skimming it across the surface for high-wattage shine without the extra weight.

Oh, one last thing about the lob. The length is beyond perfect if you’re in the mood for rocking a beach-ready Beyoncé wob – rake a bit of hair oil through the ends of your tresses, whip your head back and forth and you’re good to go. #Flawless!
