beauty trend forecast smokey eye
Having collaborated with a host of eclectic fashion designers and created an enviable array of red carpet looks, makeup artist Terry Barber is about as fashion-forward as they come.

So, who better to comment on this year’s standout beauty trends than the man designers like Gucci and Vivienne Westwood are fighting over to style their shows?

Terry has revealed which fashion week caught his attention this year.

“I thought London was really interesting this season, it kept things quite beautiful but in a modern way,” he told this month’s Vogue.

“I loved the calligraphy eyes at Mary Katrantzou, broken up with spaces.

“Andrew Gallimore also created a great look for Erdem and I loved the non-retro use of eyeliner across the board at the shows – it goes away from the 1940s and 1950s look we’re so used to seeing and makes it contemporary.”

And when it comes to trend forecasting, Terry – who is director of makeup artistry at MAC – has got one look in mind, red lips on a really pared-back face.

“It really takes lipstick away from being luxurious and formal, and we’ve seen a lot of that in London.

“Also there’s been a return to smokey eyes in a colour, like at Jason Wu or Donna Karan. It’s lovely, not ultra-sexy anymore, but languid and 1920s-esq,” he added. © Cover Media
