Tonight is the opening night of Fashion Steps Out 2012. As we share the beauty highlights of the night, 154 models are currently strutting their stuff down Orchard Road, which is closed to traffic for Orchard Fashion Runway.

If you’ve been to Orchard Road these couple of days, you would have noticed a huge white tent pitched outside ION Orchard, which would serve as the backstage for FSO 2012.

Earlier today, we went backstage to check out some of the latest fashion as well as makeup trends.

Open up your peepers, because the eyes are definitely the biggest focus. One of the highlights seen at Vivienne Westwood were bright eyes and by adding a pop of colour, you can instantly refresh your look.

We also spotted intense eyelashes at Rosebullet which can give a doll-like and feminine look. Lastly, smokey eyes that never go out of fashion were seen backstage at Just Cavalli.

Models for the Vivienne Westwood show sported neon pink hues on their eyelids matched with teardrop stickers while hair was teased to be voluminous then rolled-up and secured in a bun.

Hair and makeup artist Jeffery Linus Lee said, “The choice of pink makeup was influenced by Spring and the Cherry Blossoms that bloom in season.” Lee also revealed, “The blush used on the models’ cheeks also doubled up as pink eye shadow.”

To achieve a more intense pink for the eyes, Lee wet the eyeliner brush before applying the blush on the lids. This is a great tip for creating more colour variety with makeup you already have.

To get the look, try using a neon pink blush like Bobbi Brown’s blush in Apricot or Peony. To make sure the eyes are the focus, keep lips nude.

Wide eyes were the main focus at Rosebullet. “The look is supposed to be young and cutesy, yet chic at the same time,” said Cosmoprof makeup artist Jessica Lim.

The look which was created to make models appear doll-like, featured makeup from German brand, Kryolan.

Skin was sheer with a light coat of foundation, blush kept to a minimum and lips were painted a light shade of matte pink. For doll-like eyes, warm-brown shades of eyeshadow were used before false lashes were applied to the upper and lower lashes.

FSO 2012 Beauty Trends Just Cavalli
Makeup at Just Cavalli by Make Up Store

With Just Cavalli’s fashion featuring splashes of colours and patterns, makeup was kept to solid shades of brown on the eyes to make sure none of the attention was taken away from the collection.

Make Up Store’s Business Development and Training Manager Doreen Yong, explained, “We were inspired by the prints featured in the collection and to harmonise the makeup with the fashion, we went with a defined smokey eye look.”

Skin was dewy and cheeks were contoured while the centre of attraction were the strong eyes and brows. To create the smokey eye, makeup artists used Make Up Store’s Microshadow in Cashmere to shade the inner corners of the eye and Make Up Store’s Microshadow in Deadly for the outer corners. After lining the eyes with a black eyeliner and applying two coats of mascara, the look was finished with Make Up Store’s Lip Stick in Raspberry.
