There are so many great (and semi-permanent) alternatives to false lashes.
Everything from getting each of your individual lashes extended to giving your own God-given lashes a perm.
The world of lash enhancement treatments and procedures can be a tricky one to navigate. It’s easy to get lost in the jargon: lash perm (or lash lift), eyelash tint and eyelash extensions.
If you’re considering taking your lashes to the next level, keep reading to learn more about lash extensions vs. tinting and perming and what to expect.
Lash extensions
It’s great if you…like the look of falsies (think thick, bold lashes) and are prepared to put in the effort to maintain them.
Like extensions for your hair, applying eyelash extensions involves attaching new fibres to existing hair. Individual lashes or tiny clusters of lashes are carefully attached to your natural lashes or lash line. You are usually given the option to choose the length, colour and curl of the lashes.
You can go for a bold and dramatic look or something more subdued, it’s completely up to your personal preference. This process is usually relatively quick and painless. It’ll require about an hour for application.
Extensions are great for adding volume, curl and length especially if you have sparse and stubborn lashes that go back to their natural form even when you use a mascara and curler. It almost looks like you have false lashes on without the fuss of glue and self-application.
However, the downside is that they might also cause some of your natural lashes to become thinner, brittle and even shorter than before.
On top of that, you have to make a conscious effort to stay away from oil as long as your lashes are on. So remember not to use oil-based makeup remover when you have lash extensions on. Also, you have to be super careful not to rub your eyes.
Lash lift
It’s great if you…have straight lashes that will not hold a curl to save your life.
A lash lift or a perm is a painless procedure where a chemical solution made of keratin (a protein composed of amino acids) is applied to your natural lashes to keep them curled.
The results will depend on how well your lashes take the treatment. This can last for about three months. With a lash lift, it creates the illusion of longer lashes because your lashes are curled upwards. That said, while you get the added definition with a lash lift, they don’t have the same drama as extensions.
When you have extensions, you have to be mindful of the eye makeup removers you use and be careful not to rub your eyes, but with lash lifts, the only thing you need to take note of is to keep your lashes from getting wet for 24 hours.
After that, you can do whatever you would do with your natural lashes. So you don’t have to worry about oil products if you’re not ready to give it up.
Lash tint
It’s great if you…have curly lashes to begin with but want naturally darker looking lashes.
When you get a lash tint, a tint is applied to your lashes to darken their natural colour and enhance the natural eyelash definition and length – perfect for opening up the appearance of the eyes.
The biggest perk of a lash lift is the amount of time you save from your beauty routine. And if you go through tubes and tubes of mascara fast, it may even save you money in the long run.
They typically last for about a month and is usually performed after a lash perm. If you have straight lashes, consider going for a lash lift before you get a lash tint to get the most out of the treatment.
