Following the collaboration with artist Lisa Kohno on its Autumn/Winter Mode Make-up Florescent collection, Japanese brand Shu Uemura has once again found a popular young artist to work with on its packaging – Aya Takano.
Ms Takano’s work is characterised by fun colours, whimsical half-naked girls and she’s inspired by the unlikeliest source – geometric shapes – which explains the stars, diamonds and hearts dotting her illustrations.
She is also part of Takashi Murakami’s art production company KaiKai Kiki. If the name sounds familiar, it’s because Mr Murakami is a world renowned Japanese artist who has an ongoing collaboration with Louis Vuitton, most recently reinventing the signature “LV” logo in the hot pink Cosmic Blossom range.
The must-haves in the Shu Uemura Christmas Collection 2010 with Aya Takano are definitely the Eye & Cheek Palettes, each made up of three pressed eyeshadows, a cream eyeliner and highlighter and a powder blush.
Choose from the Reindeer Kiss XXXX palette if you like bright blues and greens or the Bowwow! Magic Queen palette if you prefer warm bronzes.
New to Shu Uemura are the Paint Crayons. These waterproof mechanical eyeliners come in a shimmery blue with silver glitter, matte pink and sparkly purple with gold glitter – perfect for a fun, youthful look.
If you’re looking for a mainstay in your makeup bag though, try the Blush Tint or Lip Duo Tint & Gloss. The natural colours and handy size make them easy to wear and use.
Shu Uemura’s also known for coming up with fun false eyelashes – check out the Magical Windfalls Partial False Eyelashes. Crazy falsies might not be your thing, but these strike the balance between wearable and like, totally cute.
If you’re up for a more daring look, try the Dream Coaster Premium False Eyelashes which are so long you can see the white feathers at the tips bouncing as you blink. They can even be customised by pasting on the stickers included.
The Shu Uemura Christmas Collection 2010 will be available in November. More information and a very fun game can be found at http://www.xmas-shuuemura.com/
