Free facemasks

Nothing is for free – that may be true, but these masks can be made with things you’ve probably already got around the house. Therefore they’re as good as free, which works for us! Sugar is a useful natural ingredient and something you’re likely to find in your cupboard. For a simple mask, all you need is two tablespoons of the sweet stuff and three tablespoons of warm water. Stir the sugar into the water until it’s completely dissolved, else it could tear at your skin. One that’s done, apply the mixture to your face and massage gently. Once you’re finished, simply rinse with warm water or use a washcloth that has been briefly steamed in the microwave.

A yoghurt facemask is perfect for skin in need of some nourishment. All you need is one tablespoon of natural yoghurt (not low fat or fat free) and one tablespoon of runny honey, which can be warmed in the microwave if it’s hardened. Simply combine the ingredients, apply to your face and leave for 15 minutes. If you have dry skin, add an extra teaspoon of honey, or if you have an oily complexion, add some drops of fresh lime juice. Rinse off with warm water and enjoy your soft skin.

Cost-effective conditioner

Haircare can be expensive and ironically, chemical products aren’t actually going to do your locks much good. That’s why you’re killing two birds with one stone by making them yourself. A yoghurt, mayonnaise and egg white conditioner might not sound as tasty as a Herbal Essences number, but bear with us. All you need is half a cup of mayonnaise, the same of natural yoghurt and one egg white. Mix together in a bowl and voila – you’re done! Apply to your tresses and then cover with a shower cap, leaving to condition for 30 minutes. After half an hour, make sure you wash it out really well. It’s super important to use lukewarm rather than hot water, as too hot and you’ll end up with scrambled eggs on your head, which has never been a good look.

Money-saving make-up remover

Make-up wipes are a pain, as using them every day can quickly leave a hole in your pocket. Luckily getting rid of mascara doesn’t have to be expensive. It’s as easy as mixing water with a drop of virgin olive oil. Dip a cotton bud into the solution and sweep over your face to remove make-up. It’s much kinder to skin and less likely to dry out your complexion.
