Mineral brows at Chanel
It’s been nails, it’s been skin, it’s been the red lip.

And now the time has come for the brow. Either you can go grunge, as seen on the Christopher Kane and Max Mara Fall/Winter 12 runway, or you can make like Chanel and go totally glam.

Karl Lagerfeld went for minerals as the theme for his Chanel show and gave Creative Director of Chanel makeup, Peter Philips a sketch and some key words to work with.

“Minerals, shading and eyebrows were the key words and the sketch showed a face with stone-lined eyebrows,” Philips said. “So the focus was on the eyebrows, which led me to interpret Karl’s drawing and the ‘mineral’ emphasis by creating straight, graphic eyebrows.”

Philips teamed up with Maison Lesage to create these one-of a-kind embroidered eyebrows in colours of greens, pinks, blues and greys.

The famous embroidery house was founded in the early 20th Century and acquired in 2002 by Karl Lagerfeld to ensure that it could continue to provide some of the most sought after embroidery work in the world.

The sets of appliquéd brows were created first and then glued over the model’s own eyebrows. All the jewelled eyebrows were co-ordinated with the clothing the models wore.

It is not the first time Maison Lesage has aided Peter Philips in his work. In the Fall/Winter 09 ready-to-wear show, the make-up trendsetter collaborated with Maison Lesage to create luxurious and graphic embroideries of black, white and crystalline pearls and sequins to place under the eye, simulating fake eye-lashes with a 1960s look.

“Working with the Maison Lesage is always a dream,” Philips said at the time. © Cover Media
