With the premiere of Sex and the City movie sequel last week, hairstylist Oribe — whose products were used on set — has shared his secrets on how he achieved each character’s looks.

Carrie

"Carrie has beautiful wavy hair with great texture and shine. The best way to recreate her style is to curl your hair with a two-inch-barrel curling iron, and then run your fingers through your hair. Try a soft hold hair spray to individualize each curl, hold hair in place, and lock in shine."

HW.com’s product suggestions:

Soft hold hair sprays: Phyto Professional Workable Holding Spray, Redken Workforce 09 ($39) or Sebastian Professional Shaper Zero Gravity ($43).

Charlotte

"Start with a hair serum, run it through your hair, then turn your head upside-down to blow-dry. Next, use large hot rollers throughout. Let them cool, and brush out your hair. Spray in an anti-humidity spray, especially in the summer when everyone is concerned about humidity. If you have thicker hair, you can finish with a bit of a shine serum or cream to add softness, keep hair hydrated, and instill a nice sheen. Depending on how much hair you have, you could add it all over."

HW.com’s product suggestions:

For shine serums: Try Matrix Biolage Colorcare Therapie Shield Shine Mist ($26), Redken Glass 01 ($39) or Redken Color Extend Shine Enrich ($42).

For shine creams: Phyto Glossing Cream or Phyto Shine Defining Wax.

For anti-humidity products: Matrix Biolage Smooth Serum ($26) or Sebastian Professional Potion 9 ($55).

Miranda

"Her hair is shorter, so it’s nice to get some fullness. A texturising spray is fantastic for the crown area. Or you could try a soft hold hair spray throughout, let it dry, and run your fingers through your hair to create shine and separation. That’s really what you’re going for with shorter styles. Just remember to take your haircut into consideration to find the best products for the look you’re trying to achieve."

HW.com’s product suggestions:

For texturising products: Matrix Design Pulse Shape Paste ($20), Redken Style Connection Wool Shake 08 ($39) or Sebastian Professional Texturizer ($47).

 Samantha

"For Samantha’s look, start with a volumising mist to add body, and throw in a little hair serum for sophisticated hold. The goal here is full hair, so blow your hair out and style with a curling iron. Add an anti-humidity spray for frizz control, then seal with a product like soft hold hairspray which gives touchable shine. If you still want extra fullness, try a texturising spray to add dimension."

HW.com’s product suggestions:

For volumising: Phyto Professional Intense Volume Mousse, Matrix Vavoom Volume Foam ($20) or Redken Full Frame 07.
