Too many late nights and supper can cause tired, dry and dull skin in the morning. And you know what that means; foundation applies horribly and the skin is left with a bumpy, cakey finish.

Whenever situations like this appear, reach for this one skincare product to solve the problem – facial oil. Makeup artist Dollei Seah swears by this beauty hack. “No matter what primer or foundation I’m using, I’ll always put a dry oil on their face first. It protects and treats the skin,” said Dollei during a recent herworldPLUS photoshoot.

Take note that only dry oils should be used for this, or your foundation will slip and slide.

As we know, dry oils have a thinner texture than traditional baby oil and are quickly absorbed into the skin, leaving a satin, non-greasy finish. Oily skin types will find this a surprising skin-saver, as facial oils can effectively balance sebum production, instead of worsening the problem, as is commonly believed.

Beauty junkies with a whole collection of foundations will find this particularly useful with drier formulas. “Oils help with foundations with drier formulas, it’ll go on very smoothly and leave a very moisturised finish,” said Dollei.

How should we use it? “It must be applied quickly, warming up the skin at the same time. Then, take a tissue to dab off the first layer before applying foundation,” said Dollei.

“Even when you use a makeup base on top of a facial oil, the finish looks better,” she added.

Dollei had the Boscia Tsubaki Beautifying Oil in her kit and also recommends the Peter Thomas Roth Oilless Oil 100% Purified Squalane.

Other dry oils worth giving a go include the Clarins Treatment Oils, Sisley’s Black Rose Precious Face Oil and Nuxe’s Multi-Usage Dry Oil.
