Scottish fashion designer Christopher Kane
Christopher Kane X Nars
Scottish fashion designer Christopher Kane has teamed up with Nars, the Shiseido-owned cosmetics label.
The 10-piece Christopher Kane For Nars collection hits counters next month. It comprises four lip gloss shades, two multi-purpose shimmer sticks, two blush shades and two eyeshadow compacts. Prices start from $37 for a lip gloss and go up to $60 for a multi-purpose shimmer stick.
The line is Nars’ first fashion collaboration with a complete colour line for the eyes, cheeks and lips.
Here, Kane talks about the partnership in an e-mail interview.
1. How did the partnership come about?
The way we have collaborated very organically with Nars for six seasons of fashion shows has been exciting.
So creating this collection with them was a natural progression for us. It is a very nice way to celebrate our partnership.
It’s a huge honour to work with the team, receive their expertise and understand their vision that is led by brand founder Francois Nars.
As one of the biggest creative forces behind rule-breaking, colour and self-expression, he is a huge influence in the industry.
2. What was the experience of coming up with a collection of cosmetics like?
The creative process was not so different from creating a capsule collection of clothing.
Nars has the same bold and creative aesthetic that is signature to my brand. So when it came to collaborating, we were very much on the same page.
I provided a colour palette based on pieces brought together from my past collections, like our signature safety buckle and bolt fastenings.
From there, we worked together to build a collection that naturally communicated three Christopher Kane colour themes: classic bold neons, nude and futuristic iridescence.
These colours are signatures of the brand and we wanted to represent that in the purest sense.
3. Is this collaboration the beginning of a venture into beauty for the Christopher Kane brand?
Beauty is a different world altogether and quite a bit to think about right now.
I’m concentrating on building the brand and our first store in London, which opened in March.
4. How does the Christopher Kane woman wear her make-up?
I’m not a fan of extreme make-up. It’s all about perfecting the beauty that someone already has.
For my shows, I usually think easy, feminine and elegant. It is all about a youthful look.
