A friend recently sent me an article about how you can devise your perfect (and arguably most natural) lipstick shade by finding a lipstick that matches your nipples. While it’s not the most acceptable or convenient thing to whip your breasts out at a Sephora store, we understand the struggle that comes with figuring out what lipstick looks good on your particular skin tone.
To help with that, we’ve turned to some of our favourite celebs for some au naturale lipstick inspiration. The top pick across the board? A soft pinky nude lip sported by the likes of Rebecca Lim, Jeanette Aw, Julie Tan, Zoe Tay, Carrie Wong, and Diana Ser Lye.

You can go matte with this shade if you dare, but for the most natural look you’ll want a more creamy lipstick with a satiny finish. That said, a semi-pigmented gloss is also a smart option if you want a more versatile lip colour to suit your skin tone.

The trick with choosing your soft pinky nude shade is to make sure it isn’t too pink. You want something with a slightly more beige or peachy tone to it so it will look more flattering on warmer Asian skin tones.

Marc Jacobs Beauty New Nudes Sheer Gel Lipstick in Hey Stranger, $44
Marc Jacobs Beauty lipsticks are absolutely stunning in every form, and this sheer nude collection in particular is perfect for your-lips-but-better lipstick shades. The lipsticks also smell like vanilla which is particularly appealing, and it contains Monoi butter and Myrrh extract to keep your lips well moisturised, as well as vitamin E to help improve the appearance of fine lip lines.
Sephora Collection Lip Oil Infusion Color & Care in Pink Granita, $13
These lip oils from Sephora are incredibly comfortable on the lips and have just the right amount of colour payoff for a no-fuss bare-faced makeup look. The formula is enriched with kendi oil and shea butter to deeply hydrate your smackers. You can even apply this on top of another lipstick to make it look glossy, though we prefer it worn alone.

Lancome Juicy Shaker in 201 Piece of Cake, $38
We went nuts for these Juicy Shakers when they first came out, and with good reason. The bi-phase lip product gives you the benefit of a non-sticky lip oil with a hit of pigment. And the best part of it all is that you get to shake it up and watch the two halves mix every time you apply it. The shade Piece of Cake is a beautiful soft dusty pink that will give your lips a lovely sheer wash of colour.
Too Faced Sweet Peach Creamy Oil Lip Gloss in Papa Don’t Peach, $29
If you love the smell (and taste) of peaches, then you’re going to want one of these oil lip glosses from Too Faced. It’s got peach essence, coconut oil and vitamin E for amazingly soft and moisturised lips. The lightweight and creamy formula comes in a range of shades from nudes to peachy pinks and corals. Papa Don’t Peach in particular is a gorgeous pinky peach that has a slightly deeper tone to it. These are more pigmented than your typical gloss, but more sheer than a lipstick.
Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primer in Blush Pop and Sugar Pop, $35
One of our recent lipstick faves is this two-in-one from Clinique. You get a richly pigmented and nourishing lipstick with a layer of smoothing primer built in. This leaves you with lips that look as perfectly pigmented and flawless as possible. The shade Sugar Pop (pictured) is gorgeous on lighter skin while Blush Pop is the perfect pinky nude for medium skin tones.
Hourglass Girl Lip Stylo in Seeker, $48
These lippies from Hourglass are the most pricey of the lot, but we’d snatch them up in a heartbeat if given the option. They’re super chic, pigmented, creamy, smooth, and hydrating on the lips. It was love at first swatch for us, and the massive colour range is a huge plus.
