Did you know that one of the easiest ways to keep the signs of ageing at bay is to use sunscreen diligently, every day? Besides UV rays, your skin also needs protection from pollution and blue light, which both contribute to skin ageing.
Blue light is particularly harmful. While the sun is a major source of blue light, our digital devices – smartphones, tablets, computers, TVs and even LED lighting – emit it too. So when you’re in bed at night, scrolling through your Instagram feed, your skin is completely exposed to blue light. It’s that insidious. What’s the harm? Studies have found that blue light causes pigmentation.
That’s where Crystal Tomato’s Beyond Sun Protection sunscreen comes in.
What It Is:
A sunscreen that took five years (and at least 30 prototypes) to create, it protects skin against UV rays, blue light and pollution.
Its Claims:
It is the first clinically proven blue-light sunscreen, offering 54 per cent protection against it (other sunscreens aren’t able to claim such protection, at such a level). The formula also has a Persistent Pigment Darkening (PPD) protection of 17+, along with a sun protection factor of (SPF) 75+ to block out 90 per cent of UVA and UVB rays. Plus, it shields the skin against environmental pollution. It also claims to increase the skin’s natural moisture by 32% after 27 days, significantly lightens pigmentation, and increases skin radiance after 28 days.
Texture:
A light cream that blends easily, absorbs pretty fast, and gives skin a soft matte finish.
What Happened When We Used It:
It has a really lightweight texture for a cream. Non-greasy, it leaves a matte finish thanks to its “dry touch” property, which is much appreciated in Singapore’s heat and humidity.
Most importantly, it doesn’t leave a white cast, so you don’t have to worry about ruining your makeup or having to wait until the sunscreen settles into skin before applying foundation. We liked that it doubles as a makeup primer, evening out and slightly brightening skin tone.
Plus, the hypoallergenic formula also means that it’s safe for sensitive skin, and it’s non-comodegenic, so it won’t clog pores or worsen acne-prone skin. It’s everything you’d want in a sunscreen.
